Former First Lady Nancy Reagan is inviting 16 Republican presidential candidates to participate in the CNN/Reagan Library presidential debate on September 16.
Former Virginia Gov. Jim Gilmore, who participated in the debate of lower-tier candidates last week, has not yet been invited. Candidates must achieve an average of at least 1% of support in three recognized national polls before September 10 to be included in the debate, as well as meeting other criteria.
The top 10 contenders who made it into the primetime Fox News/Facebook debate last week - Donald Trump, Jeb Bush, Scott Walker, Mike Huckabee, Ben Carson, Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, Rand Paul, Chris Christie, John Kasich -- have all been invited as well as six of the seven candidates who participated in the earlier debate: Rick Perry, Rick Santorum, Bobby Jindal, Carly Fiorina, Lindsey Graham and George Pataki.

I would have left off Patacki and Graham too. Neither will ever exceed 1%. The rest have a potential to gain some momentum.
Rick Perry is rumored to be out of money, so he might be gone by then.
1 down. 15 more to go.
Jake Tapper will be moderating this debate. I don’t have cable, and certainly wouldn’t watch cnn. Is Tapper as partisan as Candy Crowley?
That’s it!!! If Gilmore is not there, I’m done with the whole process. And as soon as I find out who Gilmore is, I’ll have more to say.
At least Trump was invited. I don’t know where Nancy Reagan stands on Trump, but it would be a very grave mistake to try to exclude him (not saying she would, but I bet the GOPe would love to try).
Maybe also we’ll have a real debate this time. A lot of people don’t probably know what a real debate is supposed to be like. It’s not supposed to be a bunch of gotcha questions, individually tailored for each candidate. A debate is supposed to be about policy, each candidate answers the same question(s), and each candidate is given time to rebut other candidates.
What Fox News did was a joke, not a debate.
NOT!
He can be but is a pushover.
Not a rumor anymore. Heard on the radio news this morning he was unable to pay his staff; any that are staying with him are doing so as volunteers.
Nancy has always been a very graceful Lady, and she took very good care of Ronald before, during and after the White House...
I miss the ‘Ladies of the White House” Jackie O, Nancy Reagan, Barbara Bush, Laura Bush....
Good article thanks! 16 candidates jeez they’ll have no problem freezing Cruz out.
At this point CNN might do a better job than Fox....
Jake Trapper isn’t bad compared to the rest of the slugs at CNN...
Ok, who gets his medical reform guru Avik Roy ( formally of Forbes Magazine ). Avik is the real deal on Health Care, I hope one of the top bananas snag him before he heads back to the private sector...
I love it!
Keep everyone in the game as long as possible. The Dems won’t know who to go after. :)
I miss them too. I’d like to erase all memory of the First Wookie.
This time there will be two or three candidates on the platform who will not let some partisan moderator get away with putting words in their mouths or shaping their answers.
Tapper is the ass clown that asked Ted Cruz to speak and sing in Spanish, and he interogated him on whether he was Latino enough, so yeah he’s just as bad as Crowley.
Perry is out of cash and so is Rick Santorum. Before the Fox debate, some of Rick’s staff were being shifted to his PAC. Before Sept 10th, we will lose Pataki and Jindal as well, I’m guessing. Although Jindal might have enough cash to be at the Reagan event just to say he was there.
Whoever gets in...message to the future First Lady: Please undo all of the tacky, tasteless ‘decorating’ Mooch has done in the WH.
