Close range? You betcha.
The feds thank you for that report. So many have been lost in canoeing accidents.
VERY nice. Good call.
In some jurisdictions, perhaps, in others, not so much. In my own case [M1911A1 .45 Combat Commander] I was no-billed by the county grand jury less than twelve hours after the shooting, and that was in part because a couple of well-meaning local cops, including the county sheriff, wanted to be certain that I had no post-shooting concerns nor faced any threat from the two accomplices [driver and lookout] who got away; I did not pursue.
It did not hurt matters that I had three witnesses who stated very clearly that they owed their livesto my actions; nor that the two deceased both had criminal records going back 20 years, 56 convictions in all. Nor that they were primary suspects in a previous armed robbery in which a lone victim who fully complied with their demands was beaten nearly to death.
Additionally: my attorney refused any payment for his services. It was a professional courtesy for the public good, so he said.
Matching set---20 ga and 12ga Browning semis
S&W 357 mag
I feel good.
FMCDH(BITS)
Pumps can be short-stroked, especially if the user is injured, or in close-quarters or prone. I like the idea that all I really need is one working finger, either hand, to get off a round.
I have not yet come up with what I figure would be the ideal mechanism for doing so; I've had a different semiauto shotgun about every five years for the last thirty trying to do so, and I ain't there yet. But I've not given up.
Here's where I'm at at present.
Since when does .45, .44 & .357 come in rim fire?
Muzzle flash at nighttime is of more a concern to me. Low-recoil *tactical* loads lessen this to some extant, but the real answer is to at least try those loads you might use during periods of limited visiblilty, indoors or out, and finding out if it'll be a problem for you.
you can use a 20ga instead (still above .223 recoil but not bad)
The main advantages in actual use.
Shotgun - Center Mass hit with even bird shot WILL cause a fairly massive amount of trauma with a multiple would channel.
Very Slightly larger are of impact. No they DO NOT act like a spray gun but a 1.5 inch spread is still bigger than .223 inch spread.
Variable loading, Bird Shot, Small game, Buck, slug each has its advantages and disadvantages.
Mental advantages
Most people think of shotguns, esp the sportier ones as “hunting guns” or even hobby guns (Trap, skeet etc) and thus are easier to buy as a “dual” use vs a dedicated home defender.
IF an intruder is in home and sees a shot gun most will react like they have been taught in movies that it is a street cannon !
IF you ever need to hold some one with out shooting, (best option in many ways) the visual impact of a the front end of a shotgun is well...impressive.
Well, at 10 feet away in someone's living room, with #00 buckshot, it darn near is a cannon. Actually, loaded with 1-1/8 oz slugs, it probably is a little cannon.
I would use buckshot at home for defense, but I bought slugs because I just had to try them. Went out and shot some cinder blocks with them. Damn, what a kick.
Centurion ammo.
One big ball bearing,
Surrounded by about 15 smaller ones.
Ouch.
I can't imagine why?
As pioneered and recommended by one George Washington as *buck and ball* for use by the Continental Army in their smoothbore muskets, circa 1775.
I dearly love my 19. 26 as well....
Glock light.
***But with all the BLM type BS going on, you never know.***
Reminds me of an old cartoon I saw in 1968 during the black riots.
A white man is cleaning his shotgun and his wife says..
“For heavens sake John, can’t we just put a ‘SOUL BROTHER’ sign in the window like everyone else?”
Home defense, great.
Portable defense. Not so much. Not the weapon. Ammo.
For traveling or just keeping in vehicle I prefer ar-15. 2 30 rd mags are so much more comforting than the limited magazine capacity of a shotgun. NORMAL limited capacity(for you smart-asses)
I usually travel with the AR loaded with 20 rd mag and 2 30 rd spares. Overkill? Have you watched The Walking Dead? I don’t want to be caught in the Zombie Apocalypse without at least 80 rds.
