Azaiah Williams
A 15-year-old Monroe County boy has been jailed and charged as an adult with raping, stabbing and robbing an 83-year-old woman after knocking on her door and asking to use the phone.
Honesdale-based state police say Azaiah Williams, of Tobyhanna, attacked the woman on Sept. 24, but he was not charged until Thursday after police say they found her credit card on him and he acknowledged the attack in a police interview.
Williams didn't comment after his arraignment Thursday and his public defender didn't immediately return a call.
Wayne County District Attorney Janine Edwards says the woman remains in a medically induced coma at Pocono Medical Center. Police say Williams acknowledged knocking on people's doors to harass them, and said he attacked the woman when she answered the door holding a knife.
The victim called state police around 6 p.m. that evening and said she had been stabbed in the head and neck.
Pocono Mountain Regional Police was also notified due to its coverage area being so close to the crime, a criminal complaint said.
When police arrived at her home, they found the victim soaked in blood from her head to waist and blood elsewhere in the home, including a large pool of blood on the kitchen carpet. She had visible stab wounds to her neck and back, and one arm.
A neighbor told police that the victim had contacted him and told him that she had been stabbed. He quickly ran to her home and found her sitting in a chair, covered in blood. They called 911.
The neighbor told police that the victim told him, that the attacker had asked to use the phone and a phone book but she told him no. That is when she was attacked and stabbed.
She was transported to Pocono Medical Center, put into a medically induced coma, rushed to surgery and remains in intensive care in critical condition, unable to further assist in the investigation, although she had already described the attacker.
A laboratory found evidence of a sexual assault from evidence collected at the hospital, according to a press release.
A check of the victims assets showed that she had credit cards and checks missing from her home.
Following a week of investigation by state police, numerous interviews yielded sightings of a young black male with a purple colored mountain bicycle in the vicinity of the victims home near the time of the incident.
On Thursday at 7:21 p.m., Honesdale state police were notified that the Pocono Mountain Regional Police Department responded to a call at a home in Pocono Country Place where the caller said that she had custody of her sisters son, Azaiah Williams, and that she found financial documents and a credit card in the home that did not belong to anyone in the home.
His aunt told police that he had been in a lot of trouble and that she searched his room every time he leaves the house, the complaint said. They live two miles from the victims home.
The aunt gave a credit card to the responding sergeant from Pocono Mountain Regional Police and the sergeant recognized the name on the card as that of the victim in the stabbing incident.
Williams voluntarily went to Honesdale police barracks where he was interviewed.
Williams told police that around 4:30 p.m. that day he was Harrassing locals by knocking on their doors.
He said that he knocked on the victims door and she came to the door with a knife in her hand. He asked if he could come in, but she said no so he, Let himself in, Williams told police.
He said he took the knife from her and she was trying to push him out of the house. He told police that he stabbed her in the neck. As she tried to push him out of the house he then stabbed her five times in the stomach and back, Williams told police.
He said that she fell to the floor and then he stepped over her and went through the house and found her purse.
He then went back to the victim. Police asked if he raped her and he said, Yes, I raped her. Williams said he then left and went back to his home.
Magisterial Judge Bonnie Carney arraigned Williams on five felony charges including rape, robbery and criminal attempted homicide and one misdemeanor and scheduled him for Central Court at 9 a.m. on Oct. 7 at the Wayne County Courthouse.
Bail was denied by the magistrate.
A team of Pennsylvania State Troopers can rest easier today knowing that an 83-year-old womans brutal attacker is behind bars after almost a week of diligent investigation, Edwards said in a press release. No one can answer why these things happen, but thankfully for both the intensive police work of the Pennsylvania State Police and the exceptional alertness of the Pocono Mountain Regional Police Department an atrocious crime is solved. The severity and heinousness of these crimes leads to the charging of this 15 year old as an adult. I am hopeful the victim recovers and can see justice in this matter.
Don’t worry...I’m sure he’ll be out in a few years for “good behavior”.
How did I know he would look like a son of Obama?
She wasn’t a rassist, anyway.
The “teen” years are tough./s
.
#BlackLivesMatter
I wonder who his imaginary father is?
He was just getting his life together, was an aspiring frap star, wanted to start paying child support, looking for a job, headed to a good college, clean & sober for a whole week...
“How did I know he would look like a son of Obama?”
He’ll be several shades lighter, possibly even Caucasian, by the time he makes it to CNN...if he makes it to CNN.
Sick, sick, sick
Only got half way through before I decided I couldn’t read anymore.
Another one of his ‘Sons”. This kid here, is only 15, and has already effed his life up beyond redemption. Serious mental issues. That or he’s on something like Bath Salts, mushrooms or PCP. Even were it the case that this crime spree was drug induced, he can never undo his torturous acts to that old woman.
And our wonderful, humane SCOTUS has ruled it cruel and unusual punishment either to execute a thing like that or to sentence it to life without parole.
Yes, but perhaps one of his fellow inmates could be persuaded to mete out justice.
So much hate at so young an age.
A pity we have a Supreme Court that prevents an evil son of Satan such as this from experiencing Justice. In the days when the law was carried out, he would have been hanged. Not all lynchings were unjust.
That picture of the perp shows dead eyes and NO SOUL.
Serious mental issues. That or hes on something like Bath Salts, mushrooms or PCP. .....OH COME NOW. This all part of reparations! We never had this BS in the Pocinnies until 10-12 years ago. When the Mob was there, No crap.
Absolutely he will be out in a few short years.
But by all means, we must not teach children about the love of God and how to live in obedience to Him in our public schools.
I once pondered what it would be like if everyone TRIED to live by Judeo-Christian values. The changes to society would be beyond belief.
