TEHRAN - Iran has left the development of two oilfields to the energy giant British Petroleum (BP), an informed source told the Tasnim News Agency on the condition of anonymity.

The announcement is a follow-up to the September meeting between Iranian Oil Ministry officials and BP top managers, where the Iranian side headed by Amir Hossein Zamani Nia, the deputy oil minister for international affairs and trade, agreed to transfer the development of two oilfields to BP based on the new model of Iranian oil contracts, known as Integrated Petroleum Contract (IPC), which is due to be unveiled soon.

---snip---

Lured with the prospect of post-sanctions Iran, BP and other energy giants such as Royal Dutch Shell, Total and Eni have rushed to talks with Iranian officials to be the first in line for the country’s new projects.

Oh, tell me it isn’t true. /s

They have been making payoffs ever since the screwed the pooch here in the Gulf in April of 2010. Probably before that.

If not the most unethical oil company they are in the top three.

so ...basically the laws that apply to US companies don’t apply to BP?

I get it that they aren’t an American company.

But they sure have significant assets/operations/presence/tax liability here.

How do they get around this?

The British are currently working on business deals to engage in trade with Iran. So are the Chinese and various other European nations/companies/businesses.

It doesn't. I was being ironic.

You hit on it yourself; they aren't a U.S. company.

The British are currently working on business deals to engage in trade with Iran. So are the Chinese and various other European nations/companies/businesses.

Which only makes the promise of various Republican candidates to scrap the deal and renegotiate ring more hollow. There is nobody to renegotiate it with because only the U.S. will be applying sanctions.

actually I see in the article that Shell is doing this.

So I guess so long as it is all done from Europe, and US ops/subs aren’t involved, that is how it is done.....

You got it. The Iran deal is a goldmine for European and Asian companies.

This is one thing that I dislike about Trump and the other Republicans; they aren’t being at all practical and aren’t facing the reality that the rest of the world is going to trade with Iran and we’ll be left out. Iran does not need the US any more and I don’t think sanctions from the US will at all matter to Iran since it’s not going to stop our erstwhile allies from doing business with them.
