How about that big ammo order last year supposedly from the Dept. of Education?

The EPA, an army just as armed as the standing one.

Obama said we HE would have one

IIRC, over the years various Kenya politicians have used the "Anti-Stock Theft Unit" as their own private army. "Stock" as in livestock - cattle, sheep, goats, donkeys & camels, not Wall Street "Stocks & Bonds".

They can stage live-fire war games against all the other federal agencies who've added armed goon squads to their ranks.

The 2nd Amendment is ours precisely because of such a threat. These military-armed LEO branches are civil servants whose job is to eradicate criminals.

Folks who consider the 2A a make-or-break issue should heed a fine line. The leading candidate states clearly that the reason for the 2nd Amendment is "about self defense, plain and simple."

My candidate states clearly that the 2nd Amendment is a "fundamental check on government tyranny."

Civil servants are given immunity from the classification "criminals" in the eyes of government officialdom. The politician who believes the purpose of the 2A is for self-protection may well believe that once criminals are deprived of guns (or enough of them), the 2A is less valuable and potentially obsolete -- that is the inevitable conclusion.

The reality, that the 2A was intended as a "fundamental check on government tyranny," means it will only become obsolete when government becomes obsolete.

Government arming itself this way, and LEOs disturbing penchant for applying military technique for "fighting crime," makes the reason a candidate cites as to why the 2A exists, critical.

200 “special agents” charged with fighting environmental crime.

I'm old enough to remember when the sole role of the EPA was to create "Woodsy the Owl Says 'Give a Hoot! Don't Pollute!'"

Oh, for those days.

Give a Hoot. Don't Pollute.

Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn

“And how we burned in the camps later, thinking:

What would things have been like if every Security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain whether he would return alive and had to say good-bye to his family?

Or if, during periods of mass arrests, as for example in Leningrad, when they arrested a quarter of the entire city, people had not simply sat there in their lairs, paling with terror at every bang of the downstairs door and at every step on the staircase, but had understood they had nothing left to lose and had boldly set up in the downstairs hall an ambush of half a dozen people with axes, hammers, pokers, or whatever else was at hand?...

The Organs would very quickly have suffered a shortage of officers and transport and, notwithstanding all of Stalin's thirst, the cursed machine would have ground to a halt!

If...if...We didn't love freedom enough.

And even more – we had no awareness of the real situation....

We purely and simply deserved everything that happened afterward.”

Excellent quote. I have often wondered what would have happened in Germany in the 1930s and 40s if every Nazi goon who came to the door was answered with a bullet? If every Jew they came to round up had defended himself and his family with a pistol and was prepared to take at least one Nazi storm trooper with him, how long would Himmler, the miserable coward that he was, have kept it up? If every Nazi coward who came to the door of a Jewish residence knowing that it might be his last moment on Earth, would he have been so eager to drag those victims off into the night?

But they knew they were dealing with a disarmed populace, a civilian populace that had no idea of how to fight, or the courage to do so knowing that they were unarmed and their adversaries were. They did not have the mindset of a citizen-soldier, who knows that his is the last line of defense between himself and the tyrant who would end his life on a whim.

All easy to say sitting at a keyboard seemingly secure in the midst of friendly neighbors and a friendly police force. But how quickly things can change when the enemy breaches the gates and conquers from within.

Solzhenitsyn is one of my heroes. He’s dead on accurate. And for what it’s worth, Ben Carson should quote him the next time he gets asked about his holocaust statement.

Great quote, Elsie. Thanks.

Seems our own Kenyan likes such ideas.

That’s an attitude, not a policy that could ever be implemented.
