USFS Road Closures Balloon to 21,000 Miles in Montana Counting More Categories

accounting for roads that have been decommissioned along with roads considered “unauthorized,” the mileage of road closures on U.S. Forest Service (USFS) land in Montana balloons to 21,951 miles.

On Monday, Media Trackers reported that a study commissioned by the state legislature earlier this year and reported to the EQC last week found that 9,784 — or nearly 31 percent — of the nearly 32,000 miles of roads in Montana managed by the USFS were “level 1 roads,” meaning they are closed to motorized traffic and only open for “administrative use.” However, the 32,000 total miles of roads does not include the 5,796 miles of officially decommissioned roads or the estimated 6,191 miles of “unauthorized” roads.

Counting the decommissioned and unauthorized roads in the total, there are 21,951 miles of closed roads on USFS managed land. There are 22,047 miles of roads open to motorized traffic. By this measure, nearly half of the road mileage under the control of the USFS is closed.

...and creating the circumstances that have people moving into the cities...

They are doing thi gs like “road diets” which takes existing paved roadways with 3 lanes and cutting it down to 1 lane plus a bus only lane and a bike lane thus making traffic so horrible that as the populations turns over people choose to live in the city instead of in a suburb a mere 15 miles away.

there is a sequester

there must be cuts

the actions noted can produce a portion of the USFS needed budget reductions

Old roads can be walked on or used by horses

Soon it will only be the Fed tyrants and their go-along "workers" who will be "allowed" to use our lands. These aholes are needing some righteous Justice.

For the past 40 years here there have been wilderness study areas with severe road and use restrictions. This year Obama created three big new wilderness areas that didn’t include all the wilderness study areas. Naturally, the locals said ok, now get rid of those study areas since you have your wilderness. Oh no, that will take a long time to do, if we can do it at all.

The federal land grabbers too often close off public lands using scams like wilderness study areas * as if * Congress had acted.
