Obama Won't Back Down After Chinese Threat, Sends U.S. Warships [Trunc]

On Friday, we reported the latest provocation in what has truly become a very dangerous, if largely pointless, staring contest between Beijing and Washington over China’s reclamation of land in The South China Sea.

Responding to suggestions that the US was set to sail warships around the islands Beijing has constructed atop reefs in the Spratlys, China served noticed that it would “never allow any country to violate China's territorial waters and airspace in the Spratly Islands, in the name of protecting freedom of navigation and overflight.” This was simply a formalized version of the more concise phrasing the PLA navy used when they instructed the pilots flying a US spy plane to “Go now!” when it ventured too close to Fiery Cross earlier this year.

It’s not immediately clear what China intends to do with the islands and further, it’s not entirely clear why anyone should necessarily care if Beijing wants to build “sand castles” in the middle of the ocean, but then again, for America’s regional allies the land reclamation efforts look a lot an attempt to build a series of military outposts by creating sovereign territory where there was none thereby effectively redrawing maritime boundaries and so, big brother in Washington is set to step in in order to protect vital shipping lanes.

Of course having already said that the navy plans to sail ships into the waters around the islands, the US can ill-afford to allow China’s “we won’t tolerate that” pronouncement to deter the Pentagon because the optics around that would be terrible at a time when the world is already questioning the strength and resolve of the US military. So the ships will indeed sail.

You got it. They’re looking for a conflict, war, a big distraction right now. I would guess this would have multiple intended purposes. Maybe to show how tough we are, and what a great no-nonsense President Mr. Obama really is.

The reality is these people running government couldn’t care less about America’s safety or security. If they were we would have never been in this declining deteriorating position in the first place.

I stand in stunned disbelief how quickly they are destroying this nation, along with the thug mentality that cheers it on.

I know eventually Gog-Magog of Ezekiel 38 will take place in the Middle East and with Iranian troops on the ground, we’re well on our way.

Seems this usurper was allowed in to neuter us just prior to these events. I don’t know why more can’t see what’s coming. To say it’s not good would be the understatement of the century. Nobody thinks long term, even a few years down the road now. Gotta go read the Fed thread now.

Yeah, the same Congress that burned Randy Cunningham for his contracting wrongdoings but won't touch Nancy Pelosi. Cunningham's scheme (IF he was guilty) were nothing compared to what Nan and her husband are doing.

It all depends on who you are. This is the same Congress that sent Trafficant to prison for not playing ball (7 years of his 8.5 years served were in solitary confinement, he really pissed somebody off). Do what the big boys/girls upstairs want and give them their cut, they couldn't give a crap if you're raiding pensions funds and kicking old retirees onto the street. But run afoul of the them and they'll find a way to prosecute you on something, anything.

I heard the audio chatter months ago. Not professional? Does anyone really care about that? What did anyone expect? Better English speaking more professional Communist Chinese interpreters? Btw, you'll note our guys asked them to ID themselves half a dozen times, after they were told repeatedly, this is "This Chinese Navy". Funny stuff coming from both sides IMO. ☺
