Notice how they failed to use the correct name for the Saudi air base, “Khamis Mushait air base” instead of the actual name, King Khalid Air Base (KMX).

You think the report is false because they didn't use the proper American name for the airport?

/smh

I don’t believe this for a minute. SCUD missiles are ridiculously inaccurate, and to accomplish this much damage they would have to fire dozens of them.

Remember that during the First Gulf War, the Iraqis fired a heck of a lot of them, and only one really mattered, randomly hitting a crowded mess hall.

The Yemen Barack cut & run from?

The Yemen Iran rushed in to secure?

The Yemen Iran has annexed?

Now Yemen, Iran's proxy attacked Saudi Arabia!

This was a serious military attack, not some militia RPGs.

This will surely escalate.

FWIW: I call “B...S...” on the article. It is typical propaganda from the region which overstates the success if any attack. (Remember “Baghdad Bob” claiming the Iraqi forces were driving back the coalition forces as they entered Baghdad?)

To destroy 27 aircraft and kill so many high ranking officers spread around the airfield in a single scud attack, even a massed launch, would be nearly impossible. From a look at Google Earth of the King Khalid Air Base in the Asir region of Saudi, it appears that all aircraft are in hangers (quite possibly hardened)with large distances (with over 100m between buildings)....

Open sources show the Yemeni forces have only the SCUD B, which has a range of @180 miles and an accuracy of 450 meters in range of the programmed target. That is for a properly maintained and expertly aimed missile by a trained crew. — Even if we assume worst case that the Russians snuck in SCUD Ds with longer range and more accuracy and the Russian technicians to fire a massed volley, it would still be a stretch to have such a success.

In reality, we are talking about Islamic fundamentalist irregular forces with the training to neither maintain, nor effectively launch such a weapon system with any accuracy. Yes, they can do effective terrorist bomb attacks, but I think any success beyond getting a single missile into the air in a northerly direction would require extreme or even Divine assistance.....

I know quite a bit about all the various Scud variants. I find those casualty and damage reports virtually impossible to beleive.

That level of accuracy is virtually impossible with a Scud. It is the type of rocket you launch at a section of a city and hope to hit it. Hitting so many point targets like individual aircraft and control centers seems like a total fantasy to me.

Unless they had some version of the Scud that has been developed in the 10 years I have been out I would estimate it would take over 100 scuds to cause that amount of damage, and that is if you were really lucky. I seriously doubt Yemen has more than a couple dozen after the pounding the Saudis have given them.

I think it is much more likely that this report came from a government propaganda outlet that is counting on middle east readers that question and know very little.

The key fact to note is that basically it is Sunni (SA, ISIS, etc.) versus Shia (Iran, Iraq, Hisbolla, etc.). IMO, any fighting between the two Muslem factions is good — keeps them too busy to attack us.

How did they get a scud to accurately hit an air base?

Another article mentions the airbase being hit, though it’s from a Yemen TV station source.

https://en-maktoob.news.yahoo.com/yemeni-army-forces-down-saudi-warplane-084835687.html

Earlier on Thursday, Houthi rebels fired a ballistic missile at an air base in southern Saudi Arabia close to the border with Yemen “in retaliation for Saudi war crimes”, a Houthi-linked TV station reported.

The Scud missile hit the King Khaled air base, the largest in southern Saudi Arabia, causing “widespread destruction”, Al-Masirah TV cited a spokesman for Yemen’s Houthi forces as saying.
