CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) -
The American Red Cross honored local heroes during the 8th annual Heroes Luncheon. Among the brave men and women recognized, Lt. Cmdr Tim White gave his first TV interview describing his experiences during the July 16th shootings.
Lt. Cmdr Tim White says the community has been so supportive since the attacks.
White wants to thank everyone for donating their time and money to help the victims and their families, and for showing the local military their support.
"We've been receiving cards, and letters, and gifts to the units and it's been overwhelming, it's been really amazing," White said.
Lt. Cmdr White and his family came to Chattanooga in April. Three months later, a man attacked the Naval Operations base where Lt. White was working, killing five service members.
Lt. Cmdr White fired back at the shooter with his own personal weapon.
"I feel like I was in a situation...the circumstances were presented to me and I feel like a lot of people would have reacted in a similar way than I did," White said.
Lt. Cmdr White says he's humbled to be recognized with a Hometown Hero award for his actions on July 16th and praises local law enforcement for their heroic actions that day.
Among the crowd was CPD Officer Dennis Pedigo, still recovering from the bullet wound to his leg.
"They didn't know how many shooters there were," White said, "They rushed in with complete disregard to their own safety and just trying to save the lives of others."

After public pressure, the Obama administration has decided not to prosecute him.
He received this award locally, but no military honor has been given to him for this action.
Disgraceful.
Its to be expected. We should be glad they didn’t charge the commander with a hate crime.
Don’t know how long he has been in but people should be on lookout for his next evaluation report.
Got a feeling that since he wasn’t ‘considered’ for CDR as a result of this action, he probably will never see his ‘3rd Stripe’ - as a result of this action.
Like we say - it isn’t what they report as much as what they don’t report.
Wow...!!
>:(
Bravo Zulu!
And look what we have in the White house. Pathetic.
5.56mm
Hopefully that will change under CINC Cruz.
Passed over for CDR? I didn’t see that in the article. Where did that info come out?
This is where words mean things. If he wasn't "considered" for promotion, then maybe it doesn't matter. If his name was in front of a promotion board, then he was "passed over." That means his name will be in front of another board this coming year. If he is passed over by that board, then he will be out the door before the election.
Hopefully that will change under CINC Cruz.

He will probably be retired by the time they get all the ‘ass kissing, BO selected’ General Officers booted and replace all those Young Officers that could see the handwriting on the wall and either taking up space in a ‘cocoon’ or just get out and try their hand elsewhere...
Like ‘they’ say, the fish rots from the head down so when one can put his own ‘toadies’ in charge, the shiite still flows downhill and finds its way to the bottom.
How many Senior Enlisted either got out or are trying to stay under the radar till their retirement date comes up, rather than put up with the newest wave of what may be considered degenerates?
What happens when Seaman Jones - a male - declares himself female and gets himself to the Wave Quarters? AND successfully sues if and when there is someone aboard that has the guts to either kick him out or at least put in for a psych evaluation?
Or the young enlisted have to ‘fight off’ the open homosexuals and get prosecuted for doing so?
Have they released the autopsy on the jihadi that attacked our military? Whose bullets took out the perp?
Passed over for CDR? I didnât see that in the article. Where did that info come out?

I didn’t say that.
I said watch for his evals as a LCDR.
I said IF he didn’t get a meritorious promotion for his actions, chances are his actions will cost him a stripe?
Rarely reported on are the life changing injuries to the wounded. This man is **still** recovering! There is the also the financial strain of being out of work and likely, he will have some form of permanent disability. He may never be able to go back to his former job.
Too true.
No doubt.
Who expected the military to honor heroes who fight home grown terrorists? This is Obama’s military and it stinks at the top.
