Will the players who hit all those steroid home runs be eligible?

I don't think so...hope not.

My position on this remains, the day he dies he should be voted into the hall. His accomplishments deserve that. His behavior excludes him while he is alive

Yep.

I would like to see Shoeless Joe Jackson in the Hall before Pete Rose is given serious consideration.

After Pete passes on, the Hall of Fame could have a special induction ceremony for Pete, Shoeless Joe, and other rule-breakers whose excellent on-the-field play was overshadowed by their transgressions, to include steroid and PED users. Their busts would be shown in a segregated exhibit hall /section, i.e. keeping them apart of the rest of the Hall.

“I love baseball - and refuse to go to a live game or the Hall of Fame until he is in.
So chances are I saw my last game live in 1990.”

If my late mother was alive she would say,”So you’re biting off your nose to spite your face?”.

Why on earth would you deprive yourself of something you enjoy because of ONE thing.

Life is too short.

Yep, you’d better reinstate the entire “Black Sox” team before Pete Rose, if they are going to let Rose in.

Rose does NOT belong in the Hall of Fame.

He broke the one rule that brings an automatic, lifetime ban and he did over and over.

He knew the consequences, but said, “Screw baseball, I’m bigger than the game!”

And Baseball said, “Oh no, you’re not!”

I agree with you but here's the problem.

What if the Black Sox had thrown the series because they were drug addicts and been blackmailed into doing it? Would we now have a lifetime ban for those who used illegal narcotics? Didn't all those coke addicts from back in the day also put themselves in a position to endanger the integrity of the game by exposing themselves to blackmail?

Cobb bet on baseball, beat women, mercilessly beat a black grounds keeper simply for speaking to him. If Rose is kept out of the Hall, Cobb should be removed.

Pete is a great player but a horrible person, the Hall is full of guys like that.

That's been my stance all along. Both should be in the hall of fame, but as Shoeless Joe has already passed, I have no problem seeing Rose inducted after he has left this Earth.

That's MLB’s problem. They say gambling is their biggest no no but they've climbed in bed with gamblers. EVERY MLB team has an official on line fantasy baseball gambling partner.

Pete needs to figure out how much he won betting on baseball and offer to give the commissioner’s office 1/2

Sorry the HOF has lost a lot of credibility. Damn right Pete Rose belongs in the Hall as does a crew of other “bad guys” who broke all sorts of records. Put an asterick or other identifying note on their plaques. The creep media people have been selecting players for far too long.

I too boycott Baseball. They had all these steroid players.
Owners bet on everything from horses they own to auto racing boxing, etc.

Rose never bet against his team.

I live in Vegas, NFL is bet on all the time, hasn’t ruined the game.

Pete would never bet to lose or lose to win a bet, he was win first last and always.

Its just petty, he has served his sentence for some 30 years now, and its just got me pissed that there is no forgiveness
for his sins minor though they may be. Killers, rapists, traitors have served less time than Rose.

Keep Rose out, you better keep all those players who took drugs of one kind or the other.

One thing would make me madder would be inducting Rose after he died. It would be like pissing on his coffin.
The final act of pure hatred, and not a Christian act.

Agree with others here...he knew the rules and broke them...put him in the hall the day he dies.

PED users are eligible as their violations do not bring lifetime bans.

However, none of them have even come close to being voted in and they likely never will be.

Back in the early 20’s (I think) cocaine was legal. Anyone over 21 could walk into the apothecary shop and buy some blow.

Now you cannot do that.

My point is that the rules changed. And changed in a very clear and obvious way. Everyone that plays professional baseball gets the gambling lecture.

He actively went out and broke the rule. Its not like he needed the money and I actually believe him when he says it did not change the way he managed his team.

But if we are not going to follow the rules, then why have them? I know we live in a time where the Big Boys make up the rules as they go. I know we live in a time where records are broken by people who cheat in ways the founders of the game never dreamed of.

It has nothing to do with his being a good guy or a bad guy. He broke the rules and he admitted it.

I think the way he stressed out Giamatti caused his heart attack. For that, Rose should not be forgiven.

Rose knew the rule and the consequences but CHOSE to bet on games he managed and played in.

He could have bet on ANYTHING else (and pretty much did), football, horse racing, hockey, basketball, craps, poker black jack, etc. Anything but baseball.

It is not like baseball gave him 10,000 obscure, anal rules to follow. They gave him ONE, and in his arrogance and contempt for the game and its fans, he chose to break it over and over.

This is a website rightly praised for its belief in the rule of law and rectitude. We also honor contracts. The drug-dealing, whoring, illegal gambling, Mafia tool, forever-shamed convict looked at his options and signed MLB’s contract.

There is considerable debate as to Shoeless Joe’s guilt. I am looking at his stats for the Series and he had a 375 batting average with one home run and six RBIs and I recall reading somewhere a number of years back that these certainly were very good and respectable numbers that do not really indicate somebody throwing games.

In that same source, the writer commented that Joe was functionally illiterate and simply signed “X” on a document admitting his guilt, so even his supposed admission of guilt is a good deal questionable.

Do not mean to get off topic here, but the Pete Rose debate almost always raises the Shoeless Joe Jackson one.
