Trump is no Reagan. Reagan's growth from Democrat to Republican took place over an extended period of time. Reagan did an awful lot of work in the conservative movement before running for office. Before Reagan ran, there was a long and extensive record of public speeches revealing Reagan's political beliefs and a track record of his support for and efforts on behalf of solid conservative candidates. None of which can be said about Trump.
And in between changing parties and running for president in 1980 were roughly two decades of conservative Republicanism and 8 years as governor of California. Eight fairly conservative years.
When trump matches that record dated from his 2011 general conservative “conversion, “ I’ll consider voting for him. Not before.
