Huckabee was polling in double digits early on. He had a bold tax plan. He thought the evangelical/Iowa vote would stick with him. People around him aren't going to tell him to his face he was old news. Of the field, his entry made sense.

except that it was pretty obvious (to me) that Huck and Santorum's assumption that their 08 and 2012 base would stick with them was never going to happen.

I seem to recall that Huckabee said a few days ago on TV that he’d be dropping out after Iowa, if he didn’t achieve at least third place in that state’s cauci.

>> Huck isn’t really a conservative <<

Does that mean he will endorse Trump?

They all want to be the next Obama?

>> What do these guys expect to prove as they continue to make themselves so irevelent. <<

Don’t be naive. Every one of them is building up name recognition that will help them in future years to sell books, to get FOX News and other media gigs, to land seats on corporate boards, to launch lobbying firms, to become behind-the-scenes political power brokers, etc. Not a bad way to accumulate a nice nest egg!

Same, but worth taking a flyer on. My apolitical Canadian wife observed that Santorum LIKES running for president, after seeing him in the kids' debate. She likened him to a little kid thinking "Oh boy, everybody's gonna listen to ME for a couple of minutes!"

Huck already announced he was out after Iowa. Reportedly.

I think you are very astute. That dance of the seven veils she performed messed up some calendar time for Huckabee dreams. It unnecessarily made her some permanent enemies as well, even in conservative circles.

If asked to name the candidates for the GOP nomination, 99% of people wouldn’t even mention Pataki.

Rand Paul. He’s already said he won’t do the undercard debate and that’s where he’s likely to be at the next FBN debate. And he has his Senate race to consider.

Yep, highly doubtful Huck endorses Cruz.

What states did he win last time? Add a chunk of his voters from them/purple states to the dems that will back Hillary in those states no matter what and they win those states. Add those states to the blue states and count the EVs.

We ARE talking about the nomination. Romney will get ZERO delegates from NH,FL,SC,AL,AR,LA,TX,OK,AZ,ID,ME,MI,OH,MO,VA as the deadlines are passed. It is too late for a Romney-type candidate to come in and sweep. ( source:https://ballotpedia.org/Important_dates_in_the_2016_presidential_race) The GOP-E itself is divided as to whether to go all-in with Rubio, back Christie or John Ellis Bush. They are NOT united, and even if they were, no one strategy is likely to get them a winning combination of delegates at the convention.

In a just and Non GOP controlled convention I would agree. Remember all the rule changes a couple years ago?

I was told that the Romney people tried to get GA to change our rules to accommodate them, and for party unity. After short consideration I was told we turned them down.

There aren't enough superdelegates to change things if 60%+ go to the convention Trump or Cruz.

The assumption was that the GOP-E pick wold sweep a bunch of delegate heavy winner take all states in the northeast. That is now Trump turf.

If the bad guys try something too heavy handed, I could see Trump and Cruz together leading a walk-out.
