A GOP leader in the Miami-Dade community has bucked conventional wisdom by endorsing a Republican presidential candidate that isn't Jeb Bush or Marco Rubio.
In a letter published on Christmas Day in the Miami Herald, the Republican Party of Miami-Dade's Vice Chairman, Manny Roman, throws his support behind Texas Sen. Ted Cruz. Both Bush and Rubio call the Miami-Dade County area home.
Roman writes he "had every reason to support Senator Rubio," calling him "well-liked," and acknowledges him as a colleague at Florida International University, where Rubio often teaches politics.
Instead, Roman writes that Cruz breaks through the noise and the "overwhelming indirect pressure to get behind" Bush, the former governor, or Rubio, the sitting U.S. senator.
"Cruz is an incredibly talented, principled, and unwavering voice for constitutional and limited government," he continues. "That's why I'm endorsing him."
He said he will help lead a grassroots effort in Miami-Dade to help the Cruz campaign win there and elsewhere.
Senator Ted Cruz has demonstrated time and time again that he is not afraid to take on the Washington establishment - a powerful bipartisan group of insiders and special interests that benefits and grows regardless of the way the public votes, even when the margin of victory is large or when conservatives control both chambers of Congress.
With the Republican Party's primary now front and center and getting daily headlines and front-page articles in the media, it is past time that Miami learns more about Ted Cruz - the other senator of Cuban descent running for president.
I had every reason to support Senator Rubio instead - he is a well-liked local Republican and my colleague on the faculty at Florida International University (he teaches politics, while I teach business). However, even in an environment where there is overwhelming indirect pressure to get behind one of the local candidates, Ted Cruz's story and platform break through all the noise.
Cruz is an incredibly talented, principled and unwavering voice for constitutional and limited government. That's why I'm endorsing him.
Over the next months, I will be helping the Cruz campaign reach more people in Miami-Dade. I will help lead the grassroots-focused campaign that is now taking off in Iowa and other key states.
Manny Roman, vice chairman, Republican Party of Miami-Dade Miami
Pretty much the GOPe’s only play. Endorse Cruz, hope that Trump crashes and burns, and then stab Cruz in the back at the convention. It’s a weak plan, but probably the only one they have that has a shot.

Note: If you don't like the ratings for any reason, please contact Conservative Review's Editor-in-Chief, "The Great One," Mark Levin. But I have to warn you that you may get this response from him: "GET OFF THE PHONE, YOU BIG DOPE!"
To the liberal GOPees, 8 years of Hitlery is much to be preferred than having a President - Trump or Cruz - who isn't completely under their thumbs.
Even conservatives in Rubio’s home state see the writing on the wall.
Thank you, Manny Roman.
It’s down to a two man race. Cruz or Trump. Rubio and Carson are both fading. Cruz wins Iowa and Trump gets NH. SC is the big one to build momentum. I have no idea who will prevail there but I am hoping it is Cruz.
I am all in for Ted Cruz. Cruz or lose.
Dude, I understand your support for Cruz but this does not belong in breaking news forum.
YES!!!!!!! Finally common sense is beginning to take root.
soooooooooooooooo only Trump qualifies for breaking news?
Thanks for posting. Cruz has a lot of support on FR and it DOES belong in breaking news.
It would probably be better for Cruz if it was not well known that a GOP elite supported him. That being said, there has been some articles about Trump being put into breaking news that should not have been posted there.
That silly polka-dot graph you post constantly is ridiculous. For example, Trump’s 2A policy is better than any other candidate, with his national concealed carry idea.
And that you say to contact some outside group if we do not like the ratings is you just trying to deflect responsibility that YOU are posting this simplistic hogwash over and over.
I am going to post this comment every time I see your silly polka dots!
I agree with you. I have mentioned this also to Isara, but some people cannot connect the dots due to lack of critical thinking skills and logic. Regardless, expect to see the silly, irrational dot matrix for weeks to come.
This “breaking news” has already been posted.
As before, when you look past the lame BS that his “news” is, Manny first worked for Obama, then worked for Rand Paul, and now Cruz. Looks like Manny is for sale to the highest bidder, which in this case appears to be local multi-billionaire Norman Braman. With friends like Manny, who needs enemies?

And every time I see them I will cut and paste my same response!
I added that Cruz’s former speech writer and communication director works at Conservative Review - so the bias is blatant.
