‘No Extinctions’: Polar Bears Survived Periods When The Arctic Had No Ice(DOH!)

Former Vice President Al Gore shocked Americans in "An Inconvenient Truth" when he said polar bears were drowning because global warming was melting Arctic sea ice, but now a new study shows that polar bears did just fine even when there was no ice covering the Arctic.

Scientists with the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and the University of Alaska, Fairbanks released a study claiming the "stratigraphic record of the last 1.5 (million years) indicates that no marine species' extinction events occurred despite major climate oscillations," including periods where the Arctic was completely ice-free in summertime.

"Some species thought to be dependent on summer sea ice (e.g., polar bears) survived through these periods," write Thomas Cronin of the USGS and Matthew Cronin of the University of Alaska in their new study.

"In the case of summer sea-ice-free interglacial periods, the presence of winter sea ice habitat, polar bears' ability to fast during summer, seals ability to use land areas in the absence of sea ice, and the availability of new prey species shifting ranges into the Arctic may have allowed survival during warm periods," Cronin and Cronin write.

In a response to these claims, Prof Manbearpig simply stated, "Nuh uh."

So, there were periods when there was no ice? Well, if someone gives me a 'yuge' grant, I'll look into that and see what might have been the cause. Wayback machines ain't cheap these days. Right Mr. Peabody?

How did they survive without Leonardo DiCaprio to eat?

Maggie didn’t... (just sayin’).

AGW is a scam of enormous proportions utilizing marketing in every insidious way. The attempt to use poor polar bears was really low. For the idiots that really thought polar bear were threatened they should invite one into their homes for a few hours.

That’s the ticket! Refugee polar bears. Any chance at labeling them as Muslims? That would be the icing on the cake.

Polar bears did just fine during the Medieval warming period when it was several degrees warmer than now.

Their name says it all:

Polar for when there was cold and snow,

and Bear for when the snow was all melted.

I am now ready to graduate Grade 8, under commie core.

The Earth is finally getting back to normal. Fortunately for the polar bears, they were able to adapt to the cold and ice. Mammoths weren’t successful.

Al Gore is obviously brilliant, but he can’t be expected to know everything. How was he to know that polar bears can swim?

When within the reign of the mammals was a time when the arctic was ice-free? And aren’t polar bears a relatively recent species, having adapted to arctic conditions with significant body changes over hundreds of generations?

They are omnivores, so they will eat anything that smells good to them. They hunt sea life, so if there is sea life around, chances are they could hunt it.

I remember a few years ago when a bunch of GW morons on an icebreaker got stuck in the ice. I cannot remember if it was Arctic or Antarctic. If it was Arctic, just think how DELICIOUS it would have been if they had been eaten by polar bears.
