Who is Donald Trump?
American Thinker ^ | January 13, 2016 | Steve McCann

I applauded when Donald Trump jumped into the Republican presidential nominating fray. Here was someone with overwhelming national recognition due to his celebrity status, as well as someone who was politically independent due to his wealth. Someone of that stature could potentially drive a stake through the heart of the Republican establishment and forcefully blunt the folly of political correctness that has inundated American society. During the early stages of his campaign Trump exceeded all expectations in both of these arenas. However,as the novelty has begun to wear thin and his speeches and talking points have become annoyingly repetitive the question must be asked:who is Donald Trump?

.....he has dramatically changed positions on taxes, health care, gun control, labor unions, immigration and abortion over the past 20 years....there is no thinking person, much less a politician, that has not evolved in their approach and positions on various political issues over the years particularly as they get older and circumstances change.

While Trump's vacillations on issues over the years are not overly troubling on the surface, these dramatic evolutions do require a thought provoking examination of his character and who he truly is...

..In a deposition, conducted on December 19-20,2007,the following exchange between Trump and the attorney for the Defendant took place [Trump:I'm worth whatever I feel]:...

Over the years Trump has contributed enormous sums of money to individual Democrats and party campaign committees including the most unethical and partisan Senate Majority Leader in recent history-Harry Reid...[justifying]these contributions as being necessary to essentially buy influence in order to get his real estate projects etc. approved...

..but that does not explain when asked in February of 2014 who were his favorite journalists,he listed such liberal luminaries as: Maureen Dowd,Diane Sawyer,Andrea Peyser,George Stephanopoulis,Bob Scheiffer and Mika Brezinski...in 1999 when he quit the Republican Party saying, "I just believe the Republicans are just too crazy right."?......

Just for the record, Big Shot, I don’t think I posted that I vote for a person based on their smile. Smile has nothing to do with it, but it does unfortunately with most people.

There is definitely a certain meanness, in the Cruz voter, and you clearly exemplify it. It’s malignant, and it runs deep.

It seems to grow daily here on this site, and it’s getting scary. You people are insulting, overly sensitive and ripe to be mocked. You also don’t wish to debate or talk reasonably. You want to present an opinion, and go with it till it’s old.

Clearly there’s some mental illness on both sides of the spectrum. Get on some medication before you blow up and hit someone.

She’s the Typhoid Mary of GOP presidential politics. Pray to God she doesn’t start to like Trump. LOL!

Trump reacts to the passage by saying: "Anybody would understand that a city assessment is 15 and 20 percent the value of a building."

This is 100% correct, at least in some jurisdictions. To be more inclusive, assessments of property by governmental bodies can, and usually are, all over the place. There is usually some consistency within a taxing jurisdiction (mostly quite low, or mostly quite high, etc.), though usually not GOOD consistency (which is one reason why so many people who read their latest assessment by the local taxing district go screaming to the assessors office...)

I assume you must have been a renter all your life, if you don't know that.

Further, confidence in the seller's view of his / her property, and confidence by the seller of his / her own salesmanship in this sort of instance, especially when the seller is highly experienced and talented, can very well TRUMP "market value".

Trump has his flaws, but this line of attack is worthless.

Your amateur diagnosis if my mental health is amusing. Thank you for the chuckle.

I don’t believe it comes down to has the best smile. Humphrey and McGovern had better smiles than Nixon, in my view, I couldn’t stand Carter’s smile, GHW Bush had the goofiest smile. Clinton’s smile spoke of his fraudulent self, thus was not attractive to those who could see his true self. The smile of the kenyan antichrist is unappealing to me. But there is part of the problem: for such things like how people look, we rely on subjective judgment. We each see something different.

I don't think we are disagreeing actually. We both agree that people vote on things other than issues and more on those things that don't matter in the scheme of things. Trump is appealing to blacks because his success, his bravado and celebrity status adds up to success in their book. NOthing wrong with that, better than the politician that demeans them and offers them the hand outs.

We both agree that the democrats have run bad people and still do. How can anyone, with any grasp of the person vote for Hillary Clinton? Is there anyone, who fails to see her for who she is? Obama snowed Americans twice. I still think Chris Christie had a lot to do it in 2011 with the hugs. All things equal, Americans will vote on the look of their president, and once you've become a charachiture of yourself on SNL, like Carson and Bush have, you're done. I'm predicting Iowa might end up a big surprise, with 1. Rand Paul 2. Cruz and 3. Trump. I have a building full of women who haven't a clue about the candidates, what they stand for or anything. Amazing. And when they do talk about it, it's all very superficial. Oddly enough they're not enamored by Trump. They like Carson. They're in that 20 to 40 % undecided group.

I’m actually a Cruz admirer because of his intellect. I have just warmed up to The Donald because of his ability to fight the Left. We need a fighter for America.

I am well aware of all that history you mentioned. It was stupid of him to endorse Bill de Blasio: “I think pretty strongly that he’ll end up being a good mayor, maybe a very good mayor and I don’t think he’s going to want to kill the golden goose.” That endorsement did not do him well. De Blasio (born Warren Wilhelm, Jr.,) has since called Trump a “blowhard.” Trump responded on Twitter by calling him “the worst Mayor in the U.S.” Mr. Trump finally got it right.

Once one learns conservative values, they learn a valuable lesson. Maybe it saves the world from the Left.

I like what Cruz has done as a senator and what he stands for, but I like Trump too. I support both. But I think Trump will win the nomination. Trump is right on Immigration. I actually felt Jindal was better than Trump or Cruz at one point, but he failed. I support Trump and Cruz. I have a similar opinion of all three as Palin has expressed before.

Do you think your comments are swaying anyone?
I don’t think so .....but I bet people who are a bit more rational than you, are swayed by this article.

Paul, confidence and salesmanship to inflate the value of an unseen product -- don't confuse buying the product with buying the salesman. If you buy the salesman -- and Trump is a dealer and salesman, which is great, the world needs 'em, but -- I want limited government conservatism, Cruz has used his office to advance limited government Constitutionalism. All Trump has done is sell a really nice vision and he'd make the deals to realize it. He's an expert at that kind of salesmanship, but in the real world, he's kinda third tier as far as real estate casino moguls go. Impressive at self promotion, but ...

A deal-maker salesman is the wrong guy for the Oval office.
