Ted Cruz has raised millions from New York donors
Politico ^ | 01/15/2015 | ISAAC ARNSDORF

Ted Cruz might say he has a problem with "New York values," but he seems happy to take New York money...

...Cruz's campaign raised $223,750 from New Yorkers, according to finance reports available through September. Robert Mercer, the hedge fund investor who has given $11 million to a pro-Cruz super PAC and is one of his most important backers, lives on Long Island.

Those donors are not coming to his defense now.

Ian Reisner, the hotelier who, with his business partner Mati Weiderpass, hosted a Central Park South fundraiser for Cruz last year, declined to comment. So did Michael Waldorf, managing director at the hedge fund led by billionaire Republican donor John Paulson.

Squaring his conservative rhetoric with his coastal cash drives was already awkward for Cruz. At a December fundraiser at the law firm Sullivan & Cromwell in Lower Manhattan, Cruz assured a Republican gay-rights supporter that he would not make opposing same-sex marriage a top priority as president, according to a recording obtained by POLITICO.

...Cruz has been tapping the Big Apple's big-money scene for years: New Yorkers also gave $489,883 to his 2012 Senate campaign, according to data compiled by the Center for Responsive Politics.

Then there's Goldman Sachs, the New York-based investment bank where Cruz's wife works. (She took a leave of absence in March.) His presidential campaign has accepted $43,575 from people at the company, and his Senate campaign received $96,700, not to mention the loan from the bank that he failed to report on his Federal Election Commission disclosure form, as The New York Times revealed this week.

Cruz bitting the New York libs who feed him.

Don't be ridiculous. Libs aren't giving money to Cruz.

His presidential campaign has accepted $43,575 from people at [Goldmann Sachs]

You realize his wife does not work in New York, right? Implying that these donations came from New York is plain dishonest. Yet dishonesty is what I have grown to expect from Pollutico. Can't believe a FR member is actually citing it.

Again, why is this relevant? He’s raised a lot of money from a lot of people.

It shows that Trump’s attack on him over this was unwarranted.

These two gay Libertarians had Cruz come over to their New York City apartment for a campaign fund raising event. This wasn’t just some small time stuff either, these guys and their friends are billionaires.

Where is Goldman Sachs headquartered?

She works at the regional office in Texas, but Goldman Sachs is as New York as it gets.

You’re lumping Cruz supporters together like a bunch of New Yorkers. I’m a Cruz supporter but I will gladly support Trump if he gets the nomination, and I’ve seen many other posters express the same sentiment. Some Trumpbots are worse than Dallas Cowboys fans.

Totally irrelevant. Heidi Cruz does not work in the HQ. The article implies that those donations were given in New York. That is patently false.

What were the facts here ? I must have missed something? There were two loans, both originating in Texas and both based on Texas assets. The loans totaled between $500,000 and $1,000,000. The loans were backed by assets that exclusively belonged to the Cruzes. And the loans were paid back within a year by the Cruzes.

So when you say that they raised millions from loans in New York, it is complete unadulterated BS.

hmm, why is Cruz attempting to apologize for other people’s actions and not his own? Comes across insincere.

No, I’m not lumping all of together. I stated that quite clearly, that some of you would vote for Trump just as we would vote for Cruz.

And there are quite a few Cruz supporters who are politely described as rabid.

In your attempt to sound amicable, you’re actually being condescending and snarky, which is also quite typical.

Rafael’s super PACS have indeed taken multiple millions from NY.

They aren’t his PACs. Which is why they are PACs. The total given to Cruz is less than $224 K.

I feel entirely safe in saying you missed the point. It's the liberal powers of New York who should be apologizing.

Trying reading it again with that in mind.

Attacking my registration date instead of the facts betrays your maturity level not mine.

Defend Cruz on merit, or admit he messed up on this New Yorker thing and live to fight another day.
