Donald Trump: Superman or Salesman?
The Imaginative Conservative ^ | Jan 17, 2016 | Fitzpatrick

Mr. Trump’s strength is strange. It is reminiscent not so much of the classic American strongman as it is of the conjectural German Superman. Could it be that Donald Trump is an incarnation of Nietzschean social philosophy? A man who has surpassed the common man? A fantasy icon of power, fame, riches, confidence, mass influence, and moral indifference? Is “The Donald” the Übermensch?

Mr. Trump’s force-of-will, come-what-may, shoot-from-the-hip, couldn’t-care-less attitude is in keeping with the self-willed assertion of Nietzsche when it comes to the rejection of accepted moral and political norms. Breaking with custom was central to Nietzsche’s philosophy of securing power by claiming them with an insistence that overawed all other takers.

Mr. Trump seems firm in a time of fear, perhaps promising a rough corrective to American pathologies by being defiantly absolute (right or wrong) in a relativist society. Mr. Trump seems real in an age of unreality—but has reality ever been Trump’s MO? Manhattan real estate, Atlantic City casinos, Miss USA pageants, reality TV shows. Exploitation, exhibitionism, self-aggrandizement, and self-gratification have been Trump’s bread and butter for decades.

Donald Trump is not a Superman. He is a salesman. He is an elitist critic of the elite, voicing the mass frustration at the fools who run the country. The problem with Mr. Trump is that he is a foolish voice for that frustration because he is insincere in his conservatism and inept in his policy. He wields his ego like a weapon to gain attention and attention is his.

I agree. You have the essence of what the writer alludes to.
He’s talking about technique and method vs definition.

Believe me I am the Republican base and have been for Trump since day one. Lately I have been having my doubts about Trump. I’m tired of his lashing out at anyone and everyone that criticizes him. He scores more points diminishing others, rather that giving better solutions to problems.

Probably 75% of his message in his speeches has been the same since day 1. He is like a comedian who uses the same material over and over. This seriously concerns me. Does he win it all and end up being more Jimmy Carter than Ronald Reagan.

I am in the process of reexamining the other candidates without the mud and crap with which Trump has hit them with. At this point I see Christie and Cruz as good candidates and am leaning towards Christie.

Actually Rick Perry wasn’t as bad as Trump made him out to be. He did a good job in Texas in spite of Obama.

I love your analysis. As for the article, I went to Google to see who is this Sean Fitzpatrick? He currently is the Headmaster of Catholic Gregory the Great Academy, a liberal arts boarding school for boys grades 9 - 12. I have no idea why he infuses his commentary with such German Nazi terms that he associates with The Donald. He should be seeing Trump on the same side he is. He certainly has the same boarding school background. Trump attended New York Military Academy from eighth grade through high school.

Some times I think that another candidate is paying these writers to write a piece tearing down their competitor. They know that writers will always welcome the money. This hit piece on The Donald is a fantasy piece at its best, from an alternate universe.

TRUMP IS, in essence, JESSE VENTURA...

I have been saying this to my friends IRL, and they have agreed. I'm glad to find someone else who believes it as well. BTW, do you think Trump would sue Taya Kyle in the same circumstances? He didn't seem to have any trouble trying to extricate Vera Coking from her home so he could pave her paradise and put up a parking lot, adding to his modest little Trump empire. I have no problem with people making jillions of dollars as long as they don't bully the "little people" in order to line their pockets.

I see every major name of the anti-Trump cartel that infests these threads when an article that trashes Trump appears, are posting a comment on here, lol. All the hate Trump posters, all lined up here like ducks in a row, taking your potshots at Trump, one by one, from top to bottom of these posts, with the rare exception showing up in between to defend Trump or at least appear neutral.

These anti-Trump articles have been being posted on FR hot and heavy starting up about a week ago, to the point one has to wonder if there is an organized effort going on here by some unknown third hand or GOPe backer. I’m not sure it’s only the Cruz crazies doing this; there may be something more at work, perhaps from the outside.

Well, it will all end soon, won’t it, like in two week’s time. Then the real show will be on the road, and hopefully Trump will run the tables so that all this divisiveness will come to a swift end, and the haters will move on elsewhere. Of course, withdrawing fangs isn’t so easy for some people to do, so we’ll see what the next month brings.

Yes, let the Cruzers enjoy their wet dream until NH primary results are out.

You see German words and immediately you think Nazi?

Read it again. There’s no mention of anything Nazi.

Nietzsche was German philosopher who lived and died before Nazism was even thought of. The writer is comparing Nietzsche’s ideas with Trump’s modus operandi. He makes a pretty good case.

After much deliberation I think it is wise to go for Cruz rather than Trump.

Huh?, I thought you were pro-Trump. Why the change?

Now, now, don’t be disingenuous. You know Hitler loved Nietzsche:

“There is no doubt that Hitler and many of his fellow Nazi’s found a hero in Nietzsche. The philosopher’s preference for wars is clear. Hitler was a frequent visitor to the Nietzsche museum and was an avid reader of the German philosopher. In particular, Nietzsche’s hope for a coming “elite” to rule the world fit nicely in Hitler’s ideas.”

Nice try though, lol. Trying to sway the masses, are you?

Not any more, but we’ve been down that road countless times, regardless of the panicked flogging it, regardless.

still is pro-abortion and Trump has said not only does planned parenthood do some good things he would fund planned parenthood to help them do those good things.
Only a faux pro-lifer would ever say something so positve about PP and offer to fund this billion dollar a year business
