We’ll still be attending the March for Life Friday and hopefully going camping Saturday.

The numbers being churned out by the models are beyond belief (and, there is general conformity among them, which is somewhat rare in and of itself). Already, there is a blizzard watch (I think it may be the first issued in the DC area ever — though that is slightly misleading since warnings have been issued). If the models are to be believed, it could be a widespread 2 to 3 foot event, with accumulations above that in spots. What is more, high winds, low visibility, and not even a warm up afterwards. This could be one for the record books, and has a realistic chance of being one of the top 2 or 3 ever, for the region (at least, post-Revolutionary War). Certainly a dangerous situation, given the potential for widespread outages, impassable roads, and frigid temperatures.

Basically, this could easily be the answer to the question: if you had ideal circumstances for the DC area, what is the most snow it could possibly get? Probably won’t happen, of course, but the potential is definitely there.

TWC’s founder, John Coleman, made it a respectable operation.

It is now owned by NBC Universal, which should explain its current deranged presence.

They are now forecasting 6-12 inches in the NYC area. That would be a good snowstorm, but certainly nothing historic in these parts. Sounds like it could be worse south and east of here, which happened a lot last winter.

Models trending a little north today. I think the words historic will be dropped by tomorrow. Reason why no blizzards in DC, topography and climatology make it unlikely. This is a West Va\Western Maryland storm. Will DC get snow, sure but 2 feet, not likely. I’d bet my house on it., all due respect to the NWS who is about as accurate as my magic 8 ball.

I think part of this trend is that a snowfall is a normal weather event, while a “storm” gives state and local governments the ability to declare a state of emergency and then beg the Federal government for a disaster declaration — and money.

Yes in 2008 Weather Channel was purchased by NBCU (Comcast) with the agenda driven intent to promote the climate change theme. I suspect it’s been a brilliant political move, although their financials suck.

Fluctuations are to be expected, but you are right. It is almost unfathomable that DC itself would be in the bulls-eye, with 3+ feet of snow, while the mountains to the west have a foot or so. But what has me thinking that this time is different is that I have never seen all of the models in such agreement, especially over such an extended period of time.

An odd storm, to say the least. It wouldn’t shock me if you are right, but it wouldn’t shock me if you were wrong. The Washington-Jefferson storm, and of course the Knickerbocker, happened with same topography that exists today.
