In 1950 the famed "This Land Is Your Land" populist folk singer moved into a Brooklyn public housing project owned by Donald Trump's father, Fred Trump, and soon found it to be segregated by a color line excluding any black tenants. As Gawker reports, in Guthrie's writings he took to calling the white "Beach Haven" neighborhood "Bitch Havens."

First of all, public housing projects in the 30s-50s were often built or purchased through federally-backed mortgages at a time when federal agencies would refuse to underwrite loans that would introduce blacks into white neighborhoods. The fact that Trump's father owned such property indicates nothing about Trump's father's actual views on such things.

Second, how is Donald Trump responsible for his father's actions?

Yes. Many houses built 60+ years ago still have deed restrictions and covenants on them forbidding their sale to Blaacks, oftentimes Jews as well. For example, I’m sure Whoopi goldberg’s mansion in Tuxedo Park, NY, a 120 yr old subdivision that makes Beverly Hills look like Detroit still has such a clause on the deed. Also, Hilary’s mansion in Chappaqua, NY an “old money” town in Westchester surrounded by country clubs that no doubt still find ways to flaunt anti-discrimination laws when it comes to membership. But these clauses have long ago been declared null and void by passage of the Fair Housing Act of 1968 and other state-level legislation.
