“It’ll be all gone in 2 days.”

Here near Dulles Airport, we’ve had about 2’ so far, with another 8” expected.

Starting Monday, we’ll have temperatures above freezing, with 50s by next weekend.

Get ready for all the worrywarts whining about flooding next.

Why do you expect to lose power? Is it the wind or the ice or what?

I remember the blizzard of ‘78. My sister lives (and lived) on a side street on a hill in Queens. Her street was unpassable for weeks. Manhattan was plowed out in a few days. Congestion complicates things. One stuck car on a narrow street ties up traffic for blocks.

In ‘78 the streets were cleared (or not) by union civil servant Department of Sanitation drivers. The garbage trucks were repurposed as plows. The Sanitation drivers are incredibly unproductive, probably less than a fourth as productive as private contractors most other localities use.

I live in the western part of PA. I have maybe 3 inches. Towns south and east of here have more, but still — this is nothing like a few blizzards I've been through.

I remember one blizzard that happened on St. Patrick's Day in the 1990s. The City of Pittsburgh decided to go through with its annual St. Patrick's Day Parade even though many of the participating organizations, marching bands and other participants couldn't make it. I think there might have been one high school marching band. Felt sorry for the majorettes in their skimpy costumes trying to march and twirl their batons in such cold, snowy weather.

But the best part was when some news person interviewed a city councilman (the politicians all showed up for the parade). This imbecile uttered a now famous line: “Gosh, the crowds seem a lot smaller this year than in previous years.”

No! Really? Ya think?

Anyway, we all survived without media “team coverage,” reporters standing outside with their yardsticks measuring the amount of snow, dash cam videos of snow covered roads and hours of news readers telling us, “IT'S SNOWING!”

Which brings us to the Mexican phrase of the day: “Wind Chill”.

Example: “My lady caught me cheating so she threw a brick through my wind chill.”

Yikes!! Streets were impassable for weeks??

Were they able to get to stores? Did stores even have anything left?

Hope folks have prepared, accordingly.

How Horrible! Times Square has been blasted with one-quarter inch of snow!

Obviously, Capitalism has failed, and we're all going to die as a result!

Chaos will be everywhere, and cats and dogs will be living together!

It's the high winds that concern me. I'm in a rural area and all it will take is for one tree or large branch to come down on top of a power line. If that happens, the utility companies will make my neighborhood a low priority as it's 100% residential and not a lot of houses.

On the upside, the utility crews did a good job this past summer and fall trimming trees in my area that are near power lines, so I might luck out.

She had a convenience store around the corner and could take the bus to and from the grocery store, but that stuff gets old quick.
