Liberty University's president is blocking students on Twitter
The Washington Examiner ^ | January 29, 2016 | Ashe Schow

Do you disagree with Liberty University's president's decision to endorse Donald Trump for president? You could get blocked on Twitter if you tweet your dissatisfaction with the endorsement.

Tyler McNally, a Liberty University student (and someone I've followed for a few years), tweeted a screenshot Friday afternoon showing Liberty University President Jerry Falwell Jr. blocking him on his Twitter account.

pic.twitter.com/TnQ6uXJtiM - Tyler McNally (@Tyler_McNally) January 29, 2016

"My school president blocked me. AMA" McNally wrote. ("AMA" is an acronym for "Ask Me Anything," a joke referencing a section of Reddit where users ask questions to celebrities or those with interesting stories.)

McNally then tweeted a screenshot of others claiming to have been blocked by Falwell.

Melody Young, who identified herself as an online student, told Falwell that "If you block those who disagree with you they don't experience love nor acceptance."

Falwell responded back to Young, saying he wasn't blocking those who disagreed, "only those who badger, have made up their minds and refuse to be confused with facts."

Some of McNally's earlier tweets were critical of Falwell's decision to endorse Trump, asking the president how he could endorse Trump based on the New York business mogul's support for eminent domain and calling the president "a traitor to conservatism."

McNally sent Falwell at least seven tweets about his endorsement of Trump over 10 days.

Apparently one of these tweets is block-worthy. pic.twitter.com/mjlkZeHBgN- Tyler McNally (@Tyler_McNally) January 29, 2016

"President Falwell is allowed to use his social media accounts however he pleases. However, this frivolous blocking of anyone who is critical of his decision to endorse Donald Trump, including current students and alumni, is beneath his position as president of Liberty University," McNally told the Washington Examiner. "He has claimed that he respects the opinions of his students, and while that may in fact be true, the act of blocking someone shows the opposite."

He added: "President Falwell knew the endorsement would be controversial, and up until this moment in time, he has yet to answer his critics, both evangelicals and those outside his circle."

McNally also said he doesn't believe he will face any campus backlash as a result of his criticism.

I want to know if money was exchanged or promised. Simple question. Define the reason for the money any way he wishes, just was there any money given or promised to Falwell Jr. or his interests by Trump or his close connections?

So? Some were badgering him - lots of people get blocked on other’s twitter accounts. Jerry Falwell Jr. is free to endorse anyone he chooses as a private citizen. He isn’t speaking for the University.

Give it up you vampire. I say this with an apology to vampires. You come out at night to suck blood.

I don’t think Falwell Jr. thought he would receive as much backlash from the Christian community as he did. It has been quite refreshing actually to see some fight still left in them. It really has rightfully ticked a lot of people off, including myself.

At one point you could be banned from there for being a “climate change denier.” It may still be the case.

Sad, really.

A fifty year old guy who weighs 350 lbs. wearing a bikini can grocery store dragging a half rotted dead dog behind him on a leash and not only do the men in white coats not show up, anyone who says anything about it will be targeted by some level of government for being a bully to a nice lady who needs a service dog.

But, I should care about a whiners Twitter account on a private university server?

Considering how Cruz supporters behave on this forum, I can probably guess what sort of abuse they were raining down on their President!

She’s got one hell of a lot longer record as a conservative on this forum than you do. If you can’t handle her threads, don’t click on them.

That’s a valid question since Trump’s supporters say he has been within his rights to do things the way that he does (donate to liberals, etc) because he is a businessman.

He’s a politician now asking for votes, so it’s right to question his methods.

Falwell went above and beyond normal standards, to separate his public opinions from Liberty University.

Sadly, lots of people act like crabs in a bucket, and refuse to see just how insane they appear to others.

Have a nice day!

Falwell went above and beyond normal standards, to separate his public opinions from Liberty University.

Falwell held a public love-fest a week earlier at Liberty, practically calling Trump Christ-like - but held back his endorsement. People are rightfully wondering what inducement produced his endorsement a week later.

"Liberty University president Jerry Falwell Jr. stopped short of making an endorsement of Donald Trump Monday when he praised the 2016 Republican presidential frontrunner as one of the "greatest visionaries of our time," and a servant-leader who follows the teachings of Jesus.

Russell Moore, head of the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission, the public policy arm of the Southern Baptist Convention, however, shredded Falwell's praise of Trump as "absolutely unbelievable" in a series of tweets during Trump's nearly 50-minute speech.

"Trading in the Gospel of Jesus Christ for political power is not liberty but slavery," Moore tweeted.

Falwell invoked the character of Jesus, Martin Luther King Jr. and his own father in a glowing introduction of the billionaire real estate baron to a record crowd at the Lynchburg, Virginia campus of the Christian college where the address took place. He was able to do support Trump, he said, because they had become fast friends after the businessman's visit to the campus in 2012.

"As our friendship has grown, so has my admiration for Mr. Trump. Whenever we were in New York we were asked to drop by and say hello at the Trump Tower on 5th Avenue. Mr. Trump is loyal to his friends even new friends like us," he said before adding a caveat to his praise. "As you know Liberty University does not support or oppose candidates for public office and Mr. Trump's appearance here should not be interpreted by any as an endorsement by Liberty."....

I think this guy jumped the shark when he told Falwell that Falwell was a “traitor to conservatism”.
