Rubio ‘Rattled’: Establishment Favorite Crushed by Christie
Breitbart ^ | 02/06/15 | Tony Lee

Seven GOP presidential candidates will debate in New Hampshire on Saturday evening in their only debate before the first-in-the-nation New Hampshire primary on Tuesday.

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX)
97%

, looking to sustain his momentum after his Iowa win, will be joined by New Hampshire frontrunner Donald Trump, who will return to the stage after skipping Fox News’s Iowa debate, Dr. Ben Carson.

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL)
79%

, Ohio Governor John Kasich, former Florida Governor Jeb Bush, and New Jersey Governor Chris Christie. Carly Fiorina did not qualify for the debate though she, unlike Christie, actually won some delegates in Iowa.

Expect plenty of fireworks because the campaigns of Messrs. Kasich, Bush, and Christie are on the line on Tuesday. Bush, Christie, and Kasich have to draw contrasts among themselves while trying to peel away support from Rubio, who is gaining momentum nationally and in New Hampshire.

The non-establishment side of the bracket will not lack drama either. This week on the campaign trail, Trump questioned the legitimacy of Cruz’s Iowa win while a livid Carson demanded some heads roll in the Cruz campaign after the Cruz campaign told its supporters to erroneously tell caucus-goers that Carson was dropping out of the race.

Don’t you know Rush Limbaugh’s boy didn’t do so well but he is a “ true conservative”.

“Crushed by Christie”
That’s unfortunate semantics in action.

Quite frankly, I think everyone has it wrong. People are piling on Rubio for repeating the bit about Obama knowing exactly what he's doing. He's 100% correct.

Trump repeats the same stuff over and over and over. Is anyone saying Trump is done for repeating the same stuff over and over? No.

On top of that, I think Rubio came out ahead on the back and forth with Christie. Christie repeats over and over that he's a governor, he's accountable. How many times did Christie say that tonight? How many times does he say that every day?

Anyone who believes Rubio imploded tonight is sadly mistaken.

You raise an interesting point, although ultimately, I disagree with it. I think Rubio came off looking really bad, and if the comments on this thread are any indication, I think the vast majority of viewers agree. The audience also seemed to agree based on their applause, even though most of them were probably there to support the 3 GOPe candidates equally (i.e. Jeb, Rubio, and Christie).

Still, it’s a fair point that Trump often repeats himself and doesn’t usually get flack for it. I think the difference with Rubio is that it’s a practiced speech, and with Trump, he’s responding spontaneously, even when he repeats himself. It’s the very eloquence of Rubio’s speeches that make them look so phony when the mask slips and you realize that it was just a rehearsed speech that might not have even been written by him. I think it’s all about authenticity. Rubio has shown how comfortable and talented he is at sounding sincere about things he doesn’t believe, and this example just so blatantly reminds people how slick he can be.

Trump may come across as a blowhard to some people when he repeats a story about disclosing his financials, etc., but it doesn’t come across as phony. Maybe a bit of a braggadocio, but not phony. Just my take.

Looked like Rubio’s efforts backfired. He was boo’d and his responses were weak...the audience was against him too. Came across as a “get Rubio” plan. The audience went after Trump and Cruz too.

Rubio is one of my Two pathetic, worthless Senators.
The other Bill Nelson.
Rubio got my vote by LYING.
No amnesty he said over and over.
Got his sorry smug ass elected and the next day signed on with Schumer and the “gang of 8” to push AMNESTY.
I will NEVER again give my vote to Rubio for any reason.

Rubio definitely didn’t have a bad enough performance to lose any supporters.
But I think he didn’t gain any.
I’d like him if it wasn’t for the donors he has.
