Syrian army gains ground around Aleppo, looks to Raqqa

Russia said on Saturday a Syria ceasefire plan was more likely to fail than succeed, as Syrian government forces backed by Russian air strikes took rebel ground near Aleppo and set their sights on the Islamic State stronghold of Raqqa province.

International divisions over Syria surfaced anew at a Munich conference where Russia rejected French charges that it was bombing civilians, just a day after world powers agreed on the "cessation of hostilities" due to begin in a week's time.

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry reiterated accusations that Russia was hitting "legitimate opposition groups" and civilians with its bombing campaign in Syria and said Moscow must change its targets to respect the ceasefire deal.

The conflict, reshaped by Russia's intervention last September, has gone into an even higher gear since the United Nations sought to revive peace talks. These were suspended earlier this month in Geneva before they got off the ground.

Turkish forces shelled Kurdish YPG militia targets near the northern Syrian town of Azaz on Saturday, Turkey's Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said, demanding that the group withdraw from land it recently captured.

All this talk about a Saudi led ground force in Syria went up in smoke today.

Russia announced they would resist any ground troops from any other nation.

Any ground force that enters Syria against Russian air will burn.

“just a day after world powers agreed on the “cessation of hostilities””

It’s kinda funny, the agreement was basically among the parties not in the war. The rebels including ISIS were no shows demanding a stop to all bombing as a precondition. The Syrian government wasn’t there.

This is like Chile and Micronesia agreeing on the Icelandic territorial water dispute.

Kerry is worried about Russia bombing “legitimate opposition groups”. So these are “vetted” rebels who we can trust?

That's funny right there, I don't care who you are.

Besides, Syria has every right to gain and maintain sovereignty over their own country...and they've asked Russia to help them.

And, on top of all that, it's in the strategic interests of the US for Assad to have end to end control.

From the article:

Russia said on Saturday a Syria ceasefire plan was more likely to fail than succeed [TRUE], as Syrian government forces backed by Russian air strikes took rebel ground near Aleppo and set their sights on the Islamic State stronghold of Raqqa province [The RUSSIANS are fighting ISIS, not the US. The US CREATED cIaSIS].

From Mariner:

All this talk about a Saudi led ground force in Syria went up in smoke today.

This latest cockup is 100% US led. The goal was to have Turkey and the KSA as "coalition" leads.

This lawless administration and the psychopaths that are the USGOV are doing everything they can to start WWIII.

Why are we there?

This is the final climax of progressively larger government. Create so much debt that it has to kill the debit holders. Sometimes with starvation, sometimes with war and sometimes with genocide. In this case we could either have a meat grinder in Syria or a limited nuclear exchange. Either way governments must kill. The sauds have Pakistani nukes. The Turks have American nukes. The Iranians have Russian nukes. And the Israelis have gods nukes. Get your iodide tablets.

“The sauds have Pakistani nukes. The Turks have American nukes. The Iranians have Russian nukes. And the Israelis have gods nukes”

The Pakistanis have many nukes which they would sell to the Saudis, if Iran gets nukes; they will also sell to ISIS, if the price is right.

The Turks have no nukes and aren’t likely to get any except by special air delivery from Russia. The Iranians have no nukes yet, but will use them when it gets them. And the Israelis are believed to have nukes.
