Cruz Campaign Pushes Photoshopped Image of Rubio Shaking Hands with Obama

The Marco Rubio campaign is livid Thursday after the Ted Cruz campaign released a website that includes a photoshopped image of their candidate shaking hands with President Barack Obama.

Cruz’s website “The Real Rubio Record” ironically features a very unreal image of Rubio smiling ecstatically while shaking Obama’s hand. “The Rubio-Obama Trade Pact” the text ominously reads, a reference to Rubio’s support for the Trans-Pacific Partnership. The Cruz website also features a photoshopped image of Rubio smiling while leaning on a business sign reading “Closed.”

Among the red flags that the image is fake… who shakes with their left hand? Certainly not the right-handed Rubio.

The Rubio campaign was predictably less than amused. “This is how phony and deceitful the Cruz campaign has become,” Rubio advisor Todd Harris told a gaggle of reporters in South Carolina, while holding up the image in question.

The pushback comes after Cruz faced criticism for what his opponents termed “dirty tricks” in Iowa. In particular, Cruz was criticized for pointing out an official-looking flyer telling voters they faced a “voter violation” unless they voted for him, and for telling supporters to spread a rumor that Ben Carson was dropping out of the race.

UPDATE (11:13 AM): The Cruz campaign doubled down, telling CNN that they believe the image is authentic.

Well, maybe photo-shopping is a gray area. Look at the picture I photoshopped with Obama's face in it below.

That's fair game because nobody believes Obama's lives in a cloud.

But I think you would object if I posted a photoshop of Obama doing a fake handshake with Obama.

"Cruz Iowa staffer Spence Rogers sent precinct captains an email during the caucus hinting that Carson planned to leave the race, despite the fact that Carson's campaign said he would continue.

"Breaking News. The press is reporting that Dr. Ben Carson is taking time off from the campaign trail after Iowa and making a big announcement next week," the email, acquired by CNN, read. "Please inform any Carson caucus goers of this news and urge them to caucus for Ted Cruz."

Carson told Fox News his wife, Candy, had to correct the misinformation at one event.

"She spoke at one of the caucus sites and before she got there one of the Cruz people had again disseminated that information to the crowd," he said. "And one of the organizers told her 'I'm so glad you're here, so you could set the record straight.' And she did and we actually won in that precinct."

Carson's campaign was furious when they first learned of the tactic, and Carson decried it as a "dirty trick" during remarks Monday night at a party with supporters in West Des Moines.

"This is really a dirty trick," Carson said. "This makes me more determined than ever to keep going."

Cruz's campaign defended the Rogers message to the precinct captains.

"Carson said he was taking time off to go home. We simply repeated what he said," Cruz spokeswoman Catherine Frazier said Monday. "Our email simply stated the facts."

When asked what the "big announcement" mentioned in the email referred to, Frazier did not respond."

The Cruz camp has admitted it was a Fake photo.

BS. The photo your article says is an obvious fake. The first link in your article is to a real photograph that you admit was real (taken at the State of the Union).

One can see the photo posted over a year ago at NBC. It is not fake. I posted URL in my previous post.

But the switch and bait was for another picture which was obviously fake. That picture is put up with Obama and Rubio shaking hands in front of the capital building. It is a stupid flier picture. Any fool knows it is fake, it wasn't even trying to look real. You don't float your subjects in air.

Your article starts off saying one picture is obviously fake, but links to an actual real picture taken at the SOTU address that NBC used over a year ago.

This is not the first time that a Jeff Roe run campaign has been accused of leaking to the press that a candidate running against them was quitting the race. In 2010, a press release was sent to KSPR that appeared to be from the Scott Eckersley campaign that noted he was dropping out. KSPR ran the story in the morning news and Eckersley was put in damage control in the final days of the campaign.

No, you posted a photo shopped picture of Ted Cruz saying, "I can confirm Ben Carson has dropped out".

Ted Cruz has never said that. You posted a lie, and now you are defending your lie with a lie.

And then you further defend your lies by posting lies about Rodgers and King, both who never said that they could "confirm" Ben Carson has "dropped out"

Rogers email simply passed along a CNN report...

"The press is reporting that Dr. Ben Carson is taking time off from the campaign trail after Iowa and making a big announcement next week,"

And King tweeted what he thought the report "looked like". He didn't confirm anything.

"Carson looks like he is out. Iowans need to know before they vote. Most will go to Cruz, I hope."

If you think Trump has not been unfairly targeted, you are wrong. He has been attacked from both sides, conservative and liberal.

By the mere fact that you call Trump supporters by something meant to elicit disdain shows me that you are no better than those you rail against by choosing to refer to them as Trumpster's. Trumpster rhymes with dumpster and that's where his supporters belong, according to many Cruz supporters. We have even been called not really conservatives along with a host of other assessments. Bothers me not in the slightest because I have thick skin.

It's a two sided tug-of-war, but of course you see the Trump supporters as being the most egregious offenders of the two.

Just a little advice, in the future if you want to come off as a neutral observer, try to hide your obvious disdain of one side in particluar.

Cruz’s campaign did that and Ted “the only principled candidate in the race” did nothing about it. Jeff Roe is still pulling crap like that. Is that ok with you? Actions have consequences and for Ted it shows up in his massive NH loss and current poll numbers.
