Trump win confounds critics who thought gaffes would do him in
Washington Examiner ^ | February 21, 2016 | Byron York

For months, Donald Trump's antagonists in rival campaigns, in the GOP establishment and in the punditocracy have believed the time would come, someday, when Trump would say something so outrageous, so over-the-top, so out there that the scales would finally fall from his supporters' eyes and the Trump candidacy would collapse. The South Carolina campaign, some believed, would be that time.

My biggest takeaway from this article and something, in my view, the GOPe needs to pay attention to if they're thinking Nikki Haley and Marco Rubio are the future of the party...

"Trump also won against the opposition of pretty much the entire South Carolina political establishment. In the last couple of days of the campaign, popular Gov. Nikki Haley and popular Sen. Tim Scott and popular Rep. Trey Gowdy traveled the state together with Rubio, presenting themselves as a "new conservative movement" (Haley's words) that would sweep Rubio to victory. Gowdy and Scott developed a buddy comedy routine, and Scott at times seemed almost giddy introducing "Marco Rooooooooooooooobio!"

It didn't work. Just 25 percent of voters said they thought Haley's endorsement was important. And of the 75 percent who didn't, Trump won by a dozen points. Finally, another pillar of the state political establishment, Sen. Lindsey Graham, endorsed Jeb Bush. When the televisions at the Trump victory party mentioned Graham's name, there was loud and lusty booing. It was much louder than any catcalls directed at Bush's withdrawal speech."

Presenting Rubio as a Conservative anything is ridiculous.

He is the face of “not Trump or Cruz.” Other than that, he might as well be hitlery.

Screw Haley. She’s already betrayed those who elected her. And Gang of Eight traitor Rubio can go straight to hell!!

Most of what the MSM/pundits call gaffes are actually the very things that are propelling Trump’s campaign. “No more Muslims” is not a gaffe.

Recall how we used to say that a certain magic fellow could barbecue babies on the white house lawn and his followers would still worship him?

SSDD.

Trumpkins by definition are impervious to their candidates flaws. Now we see even the Evangelicals toss their principles (Man doth not live by bread alone) overboard to vote for the man. Trump himself said it, he could shoot at them in the middle of Fifth Avenue, and they would vote for him. Yet he has the highest negatives of any of the candidates thus assuring a certain defeat in the general if he is the Republican nominee.

I am wondering if the gaffes that the writer is concerned about were what the critics thought were gaffes?

Apparently they were gaffes in their own minds.

"I voted establishment for most of my life. I voted for both Bushes, I voted for Bob Dole, John McCain, Romney. I'm just ready for something different, somebody who'll actually get in there and make a change."

Bingo. I've not decided between Trump or Cruz, but it'll be one or the other for this reason. Otherwise, might as well vote Sanders or Klinton, because at least then the shooting will start sooner...I'm not into protracted agony.

Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!

Despite all my comments against Cruz, he’s still now my 2nd choice. Rubio is 100% establishment behind the scenes but, like Obama, talks a good game.

Apparently, a whole lot of people still don’t understand just how pissed off the voters really are. It’s an open voter rebellion against the political class. Rightly or wrongly, Cruz is lumped in with the political class. Trump is the outsider and he’s successfully lopping off heads. It’s as simple as that.

Why Trump won South Carolina:

No one more conservative than Trump on building the Wall.

No one more conservative than Trump on deporting ALL ILLEGALS.

No one more conservative than Trump on stopping hemorrhaging Trillion dollars EVERY year from American economy in foreign trade deficits.

No one more conservative than Trump on stopping Trillions spent in middle-east wars with borrowed money from China, Japan & EU.

No one more conservative than Trump on taking better care of Vets.

No one more conservative than Trump on stopping influx of UN-Vetted Muslims entering the country.

Cruz and Rubio are certainly more conservative than Trump on social issues. But the voters are obviously not looking for a pastor to be commander in chief.

The jig is up. America is awake. The intellectuals are exposed, trapped in a groupthink prison of their own design.

The pundits are invested in fabricating a reality based on their words.

They do not understand people. Then again in a revolution THEY would support, their oligarchs would line them up against the wall first before anyone. The pundits would have a stupid look on their face at the end.

In 1776 the Torres had the same lack of understanding.

First, not unlike many of the comments he is credited/maligned for saying, that is not what he said.

Second, for someone that has the “highest negatives”, he single handily ended a political dynasty, not to mention several other campaigns, and twice, thus far, (with the third getting ready to be served) schlonged two of the best politicians and orators the Senate has to offer.
