In his remarks today at a rally in Fort Worth, Tex., Donald Trump knew hed make news. Ive never said this before, he declared.
Well await the word of the Washington Post Fact Checker on the integrity of the statement, but Trump did appear to be veering into a new talking point. A media-law talking point, that is:
One of the things Im going to do, and this is going to make it tougher for me but one of the things Im going to do if I win is Im going to open up our libel laws so when they write purposely negative and horrible and false articles, we can sue them and win lots of money. Were going to open up those libel laws. So that when the New York Times writes a hit piece, which is a total disgrace, or when the Washington Post, which is there for other reasons, writes a hit piece, we can sue them and win money instead of having no chance of winning because theyre totally protected.
An attack on media law is a logical extension of Trumps rhetoric, not to mention a threat to American democracy. After all, he has displayed a highly undemocratic annoyance with the idea that the media is independent. For months he has been attempting to get the cameras at his rallies to properly pan around the thronged arenas, the better to capture his out-of-control popularity, even when the camera operators job is to stay on him. He has ridiculed reporter after reporter for reporting the facts of Trumps march through the GOP primaries. Whenever he has been busted out by investigative journalism, he has attacked the institutions that have compiled it.

ouch
We can demand exactly what the left demands of us.
Racial quotas are no problem.
Ideological ones should be no problem too.
If they want to receive licensing, they should be able to explain how they have presented a balanced news disbursement.
Otherwise, they should lose their license to operate.
Free speech for individuals are subject to libel laws.
Press gets some special consideration beyond that...however, the gist of Trump’s argument is that when a corporation like Amazon, purchases a newspaper for purpose of advocacy, the newspaper becomes a marketing/propaganda arm for the Corporation and should no longer have the same protection.
That is the context of what Trump said. It had to do with Amazon purchasing the Washington Post.
I have read remarks here for years about the dishonest media and how they control politics.
Now you are going to complain about someone actually stepping up to the plate and calling them out on their dishonesty?
The press has freedom of speech to inform the public. It does not have the right to create the news.
So, you want to impose the fairness doctrine. I am terrified of how ok many Trump supporters seem to be with the idea of the government controlling the press.
I was misinformed. From Wikipedia:
Finally we’ll be able to silence the Global Warming deniers!
Wapo wants to continue to knowingly lie without ramifications. It helps the media to push their liberal agendas. The first amendment does not give one the right to knowingly lie. The Wapo does not want to have to check their aources assuming they have a source in the first place. Cruz fans have no issues with lying.
LoL...
So now going after the Leftist media bastion is also out of bounds.
Wow, I never realized what staunch supporters of the Washington Post et al, and the cabal media of ABC, CBS, and NBC had here.
Now wonder Trump has you folks knocking knees.
You’re GOPe to the bone.
Ditto.
Yea, he wants the govt. to pay for every Americans healthcare. He said it exactly in those words.
Does that sounds “fiscally” conservative to you? There are many other examples.

“So you are ok with the political correctness status quo. Again, thanks for letting me know your position.’
Nope. Never said any such thing. Trumpateers are an interesting lot. Take any of Trump’s statements, put them in Hillary’s mouth, then they cease to be acceptable. But, to a dedicated Trumpateer such as yourself, if Trump says them, well, gosh dang golly gee, it must be ok, because Trump sez so.
I’m actually happy with the fact that the press is killing itself with the American public with their abusiveness and not through government intimidation which all conservatives should oppose even if it’s the NYT
We were talking news media.
Is Rush sold as a news show, or a talk show?
Do you know the difference?
If a station wants to produce Leftist shows all day, all week, all month, and every year... they should be able to do it.
When it comes to presenting news, they need to do it even handed.
We’re breaking for news [ news content ] we’re back to our scheduled program.
Do you understand what I’m saying?
Get with the program. Just look at how many people show up for the rallies.
Of those three things I listed, which of them do you think is free speech that should be protected on sites like this one?
Here you go again with the Hitler motif. Folks, get a grip on reality.

No, he said he inherited it, not that it was merely given to him.
___________________________________________________________
The truth is that Donald’s father didn’t pass away until 1999. Way after he he found success.
Whatever the inheritance was, it was split between family members and would not amount to as much as Trump had built himself.
Trump started his business with a one million dollar loan from his dad that he paid back.
The whole story is false and Rubio chose to continue the false narrative.

Haven’t you heard he’s gonna make great deals with his friends Pelosi and Schumer?
Not for me, there are quite a few things that come out of Trump's mouth that send shivers down my spine, however, given the lot that has been placed before us, it is the Constitution that should direct our choice and thus far, Trump is the most constitutional of them all ... and he actually is constitutionally qualified, so that makes the choice even easier. The day anyone agrees with everything a politician says is the day they should be examined for insanity.
While I wouldn’t say Trump is an American Hitler, It’s clear he favors a more authoritarian approach to governing and sadly, many here accept that
