In his remarks today at a rally in Fort Worth, Tex., Donald Trump knew hed make news. Ive never said this before, he declared.
Well await the word of the Washington Post Fact Checker on the integrity of the statement, but Trump did appear to be veering into a new talking point. A media-law talking point, that is:
One of the things Im going to do, and this is going to make it tougher for me but one of the things Im going to do if I win is Im going to open up our libel laws so when they write purposely negative and horrible and false articles, we can sue them and win lots of money. Were going to open up those libel laws. So that when the New York Times writes a hit piece, which is a total disgrace, or when the Washington Post, which is there for other reasons, writes a hit piece, we can sue them and win money instead of having no chance of winning because theyre totally protected.
An attack on media law is a logical extension of Trumps rhetoric, not to mention a threat to American democracy. After all, he has displayed a highly undemocratic annoyance with the idea that the media is independent. For months he has been attempting to get the cameras at his rallies to properly pan around the thronged arenas, the better to capture his out-of-control popularity, even when the camera operators job is to stay on him. He has ridiculed reporter after reporter for reporting the facts of Trumps march through the GOP primaries. Whenever he has been busted out by investigative journalism, he has attacked the institutions that have compiled it.

I didn’t name names because I’m open to the possibility that the comments were poorly considered and that the people who made them probably don’t deserve to be shamed over the comments weeks or even days after making them. I’m just gobsmacked by the things that have been said this election season. It’s the worst I’ve seen in all my years on FR.
Good grief, here’s the quotes:
Donald Trump: Obamacares going to be repealed and replaced. Obamacare is a disaster if you look at whats going on with premiums where theyre up 40, 50, 55 percent.
Scott Pelley: How do you fix it?
Donald Trump: Theres many different ways, by the way. Everybodys got to be covered. This is an un-Republican thing for me to say because a lot of times they say, No, no, the lower 25 percent that cant afford private. But
Scott Pelley: Universal health care.
Donald Trump: I am going to take care of everybody. I dont care if it costs me votes or not. Everybodys going to be taken care of much better than theyre taken care of now.
Scott Pelley: The uninsured person is going to be taken care of. How? How?
Donald Trump: Theyre going to be taken care of. I would make a deal with existing hospitals to take care of people. And, you know what, if this is probably
Scott Pelley: Make a deal? Who pays for it?
Donald Trump: the governments gonna pay for it. But were going to save so much money on the other side. But for the most its going to be a private plan and people are going to be able to go out and negotiate great plans with lots of different competition with lots of competitors with great companies and they can have their doctors, they can have plans, they can have everything.
If done right, I agree.
I’m not looking to stifle opposing opinion, but I do want it based on some reality.
Here is the FR thread I was referring to (just so you know I wasn’t lying to you).

I can’t even imagine what having a pro-American media in America would be like.
W@HOSE ‘truth’?
The Don will decide what is and what is not truth?
He doesn’t know himself -
He lies like others breathe, it congenital with people like him
Possibly with multiple days as part of the restitution.
I didn’t think you made up the fact it was posted but the author is lying.
You can google the transcript of the 60 Minutes interview and see for yourself it is a lie.
I’m afraid what I posted IS the absolute truth and the author IS NOT lying:

You Trump backers really need to stop deluding yourselves. Sooner or later you’re gonna realize that it’s not everyone else who’s lying.....it’s your candidate.
I just hope that it is not too late when you do.
Oh, how they caper .... "A kiss, Donald, blow me a kiss!" as they run, hopelessly smitten, after their doughfaced beau ideal, waving their arms in the air, craving a glance or a tingle-inducing smile.
Yeah, rockribbed republicans, more character than Cato the Elder and Daniel Webster put together, throwing their arms on the ground before the royal presence and crying out in one voice, "Molon labe! We were just kidding!"
Like teenaged girls, they behave snootily and snottily and cross their legs like NHL hockey goalies until they see someone they really, really like ("Mother, mother, he's the ONE!"). Then they're Eva Peron, whom Aristotle Onassis once put on her back in 20 minutes when they first met. (The yacht ... the smell of money ... the Old Spice .... the enormous cabin bed .... OMGOMGOMG!!)
You Trump fanatics are a piece of work, both individually and as an undistinguishable, faceless mass of Lumpenproletariat.
There’s a clear red line between first amendment protection and advocating sedition. The Goebbel’s propaganda machine crossed that line decades ago. If you can’t see that the leftist media is the enemy of American liberty, then clean your glasses, buddy.
What is it with you Cruz guys and the straw men?
You fail to persuade, and now it’s you prospects that bear the blame.
If Trump had his way, he’d be defending a lot more lawsuits than he’d be filing. Besides, Trump has never won a defamation case.
That’s a good rant. But Trump is more like Mic Jagger or Michael Jackson. He’s going to have fans lined up, he’ll sign some Trump memorabilia, give a rousing speech and move on to the next event. It is unrealistic to expect him to change as president. The wall, the tariffs and the tax cuts are probably a done deal, but even those will be traded for something. Everything else will be hit or miss. Personally I don’t give a damn because the politicians and hollywood have hosed our country and we need more than Trump, we need a reset. But Trump may also help fracture the GOP which would be a very good outcome.
TRUTH MATTERS....
and I will stand with Donald J. Trump...
We had eight years of Bill Clinton lying and more years than that of Hillary Clinton...SHE IS A HABITAUL LIAR...
the biggest lie is BENGHAZI and she needs to be reminded daily and there will be NO CLINTON HANDLER able to stop that message during the Trump/Clinton War..
I am tired of the MSM telling ‘OBAMA/CLINTON FAIRY TALES’ and it is time to stop the political cover up that takes place...
THAT MY FRIENDS ARE MY OPINION WHY THE AMERICAN VOTERS/PEOPLE HAVE AWAKENED AND WE ARE SICK AND TIRED OF ALL THE JERKS IN WASHINGTON....WE WANT THE CHANGE THAT HUSSEIN OBAMA PROMISED, THAT TO HIM WAS A SLOGAN FAIRY TALE, BUT TO VOTERS IN 2016...WE MEAN BUSINESS...
LET’S ROLL AMERICAN’S AND VOTE FOR DONALD J. TRUMP.
Ted Can Fix It!
Ted Can Fix It!
I have a book somewhere on presidential personality profiles. Most have been, in the Myers-Briggs schema, Guardian-type personalities (best example: Dubya). The worst ones, like Slick and Barky and FDR, have been opposite types, what they call Artisan (Arty-Farty for short), performance-type personalities to whom "all the world's a play" .... and they don't necessarily feel any obligations or responsibility for outcomes. It's all about the limelight and showing their good side, to them.
I'm afraid Trump's the latter -- you can metasearch the personality type sorters, two of the most useful are found in The Color Book and Myers-Briggs, and another is the Disc Profiler (DISC is an acronym).
Point is, with these personality sorters, if you profile a guy, then believe what you read! What you see is what you get. If you don't know, you can use questionnaires about what you know of Trump's personality (including the private side we don't usu. discuss, some of which is encouraging) to sort him out. But if he's an artisan type, that "all about me" stuff won't go away, no matter how disgusted with it we might be after eight interminable years of Obaminate destruction of society and the Republic.
Screaming does make your stance valid:
Trump however, has a 2 decade history of taking liberal positions
1.He thinks affirmative action is okay.
2.He would fund Planned Parenthood except for abortion. (This is current federal policy)
3.He supports a progressive income tax. He does not favor a flat tax.
4.He doesn’t want to cut Social Security or Medicare.
5.He’s in favor of a ban on assault weapons.
6.He supports Universal Healthcare coverage for every American and the “govt. will pay for it”.
7.He doesn’t “fully believe in supply-side economics”.
8.He wants to lead “from behind” on Ukraine. Trump believes that Germany should take the lead on Ukraine.
9.He hates the Iran deal, but he wouldnt abrogate it after taking office.
10. A short 5 years ago he termed the Republican approach to immigration enforcement mean spirited.
11.He supports “touchback amnesty”.
12.He has supported/supports such liberal sacred cows as ethanol subsidies, Kelo and govt. bailouts.
Why do you think all the best conservative minds of our time (Limbaugh, Levin, Sowell, Viguerie etc) all back Cruz?
Its because hes the only true conservative of the lot.
