Donald Trump just declared his intent to destroy American democracy
The Washington Post ^ | 2/26/2016 | Erik Wemple

Posted on 02/27/2016 1:57:52 PM PST by dschapin

In his remarks today at a rally in Fort Worth, Tex., Donald Trump knew he’d make news. “I’ve never said this before,” he declared.

We’ll await the word of the Washington Post Fact Checker on the integrity of the statement, but Trump did appear to be veering into a new talking point. A media-law talking point, that is:

One of the things I’m going to do, and this is going to make it tougher for me…but one of the things I’m going to do if I win…is I’m going to open up our libel laws so when they write purposely negative and horrible and false articles, we can sue them and win lots of money. We’re going to open up those libel laws. So that when the New York Times writes a hit piece, which is a total disgrace, or when the Washington Post, which is there for other reasons, writes a hit piece, we can sue them and win money instead of having no chance of winning because they’re totally protected.

An attack on media law is a logical extension of Trump’s rhetoric, not to mention a threat to American democracy. After all, he has displayed a highly undemocratic annoyance with the idea that the media is independent. For months he has been attempting to get the cameras at his rallies to properly pan around the thronged arenas, the better to capture his out-of-control popularity, even when the camera operators’ job is to stay on him. He has ridiculed reporter after reporter for reporting the facts of Trump’s march through the GOP primaries. Whenever he has been busted out by investigative journalism, he has attacked the institutions that have compiled it.

Mmmmmmm.... All along its been possible to go after media for false slander. Trouble is you have to prove its slander and that its false.

Tumpbots have turned against every other thing that conservatives thought had value, why not the 1st Amendment?
All that matters is Trump.

Be very careful what you wish for.

There was a big difference between slick and barky, the former did pump the economy thanks to Newt who forced him to cut some of the dividend and gain taxes (after first raising income taxes). They also cut the deficit together. He lucked out by coinciding with a big bubble and the economy ended up hollowed out in the long run. In contrast Barky is 100% bad. Hopefully Trump will be forced to deal with a strong Congress so that they will come up with some good results between them. But who will lead that? Maybe nobody considering how Trump will attack them. But maybe we'll get lucky.

I am afraid the destruction of society and the Republic will continue unabated. The only bright spot in that regard is that he will temporarily slow our transition to having numerous barrios seen elsewhere the world. That includes both the Hispanic barrios which I have traveled through and occasionally gone into here, and the Muslim no-go zones. Those are a form of social rot. We could also get an economic boom.

But hollywood will continue to prosper and may even do better with Trump since he has worked with them before. Social issues will be put on the back burner. The supreme court nominees will be a bit of a crap shoot although better than anything Hillary would come up with.

Just keep in mind that if libel laws are relaxed even more, Free Republic is probably one of the first sites that will disappear. How many lawsuits do you think JimRob could defend before just folding up shop? Or are you of the mistaken impression that such changes would only affect places like WaPo and the NYT?

I apologize for my rude language and over the top ridiculous ‘accusation’.

Yes, I was trying to make a point but the ends by far did not justify the means.

Given that DAN RATHER nearly STOLE THE ELECTION from Bush in 2004, I sure as hell hope we start HOLDING THE MEDIA TO ACCOUNT - rather than giving them a FREE PASS to both pick our candidate and pick our president.

Alumni, roommates, law clerks, former staffers in the George W. Bush campaign and White House (and the president himself), members of Congress and others who have known Cruz, lots and lots of people consider him socially awkward, nasty, dishonest, a blatant apple-polisher and all-around creepy guy. You can write off a few of these critics as jealous of his success, or liberal antagonists, but all of them? There is something badly amiss here. Cruz, who so obviously lacks emotional intelligence, cannot recognize it, but those closest to him surely must see that something is awry...

Ted Cruz the senator: Heard but not seen The Texas Republican seriously lags most of his colleagues in attending hearings and casting votes.

Ted Cruz came to Washington two-and-a-half years ago pledging to be the anti-senator. But he's been more like the no-show senator.

The Texas Republican seriously lags most of his colleagues in attending hearings and casting votes in what has been a Senate career long on rhetoric and short on Senate business. He's skipped the vast majority of Armed Services Committee hearings, is below-average in attendance on his other major committees and ranks 97th during the first three months of this year in showing up for roll call votes on the Senate floor. ... -Read more: Ted Cruz the senator: Heard but not seen

What a bunch of excrement!

Anything to try to take Donald down.

You all have been talking about a ‘revolution’...well here it is. It’s led by Donald.
Don’t mess it up.
It’s our last chance to take America back from the commies, muzzies and socialists.

The biggest threat to America, by far, is the left wing press. By controlling what the masses hear and how they slant the news, we are helpless to get the truth out.

Oh, I know some truth gets out, but it just gets drowned out by the MSM. They tell the people what to think and most people just gulp down the Kool-Aid.

So, YES sue the crap out of them. Make them tell only the truth.

For one thing Trump was frustrated by the bogus attack on Liberty University ...

TRUMP UNIVERSITY HAS A 98% APPROVAL RATING
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3402515/posts

But also he want to silence us about his unholy alliance with Polish illegal immigrants 30 years ago.

Any democrat will tell you that a Polish defector from the Soviet Bloc is up to no good if he’d rather work in constrution than join a street gang. That’s why the democrats refused to accomodate them with immigration policy. Worst of all? They were Christian.

Good for the democrats. We need more muslims from Syria. We need more gangbangers. We need human trafficking. We need more disease and bedbugs. Not Polish Christians.

~~~
I do hope Trump gets off this bad idea.
Limited government. Not more government power.
