Republican Combat Vet: Trump Is Openly Advocating War Crimes
Buzz Feed ^ | 03/04/2016 | Christopher Massie

Posted on 03/04/2016 9:25:06 AM PST by SeekAndFind

Rep. Adam Kinzinger of Illinois, a former Air Force pilot who served in Iraq and Afghanistan, said on Thursday that Donald Trump is openly advocating war crimes that would cause the soldiers who obeyed his orders to be jailed.

“If you’re a private in the field and your major or your colonel orders you to do something that is a war crime, you actually bear responsibility, you can’t say that the colonel made me do it,” said Kinzinger, who is supporting Marco Rubio. “What Donald Trump, as wanting to be president of the United States is advocating, is a war crime that would force every soldier that did, i.e. killed the relatives of terrorists, tortured regardless of whether it not it works, the things that he’s advocating would force all of these people in jail.”

Speaking on the Steve Cochran Show on Chicago radio, Kinzinger argued that Trump was either “all bluster” or comparable to Italian fascist dictator Benito Mussolini.

“Now, you have to do one of two things,” he said. “You either believe that Donald trump is all bluster which most people do but for some reason they like that, or you take him at his word in which case he is advocating, like what Benito Mussolini did, war crimes.”

Kinzinger also said that what Trump was calling for “makes me sick.”

“For the leading Republican presidential candidate to advocate war crimes, which he does openly, just advocates war crimes, doesn’t matter, makes me sick really,” he said. “Especially as somebody that’s defended the country. It’s just terrible.”

Later in the interview, Kinzinger said, “I can’t see myself supporting Donald Trump. I never say definitively because who knows in the future. But I have no intention of supporting Donald Trump.”

As for his preferred candidate, Rubio, Kinzinger said he felt “pretty good” about the Florida senator’s chances of winning his home state’s primary, but that “I’d definitely rather be in Trump’s position politically.”

UCMJ - Article 90
I’m on my phone so you’ll need to look it up.

“I was just following orders” - it’s a great way to go to jail or be hanged.

Glenn Beck was also hysterical about this topic this morning.

Let Trump clarify his remarks.

Kinzinger is GOPe.

You sided with West. Good. So did I.

But I don’t side with complicit villagers or families or hospitals or schools or etc.

It’s not Trump they must sink, it’s an America populated by Americans.

Yes because the precious Islamic women and children in the ME are so pure we have to worry if their rights are violated while they supporting the men who are trying to kill our soldiers.

Kind of like, don’t bomb the oilfields because it may adversely affect the environment.

War crimes may be guidelines when you are dealing with nation state govts,,I think the rules are/should be different when you are dealing with terrorist pricks. Then again, I’m worried more about my fellow Americans coming home than I am about some cupcake getting upset that I’m defending my countrymen in an aggressive fashion that someone, somewhere FAR from battle has determined is ‘criminal’.

Tough.

Yeah. I don’t think Trump is going to go around like Mussolini ordering people to act against ucmj

If you raw ally do, if anyone really does, they’re eating my time

This guy doesn’t either. He’s acting outraged after all the crap that’s gone on. After the guys at Benghazi had to defy orders in order to save our embassy lives

Get over it.

If family members are supporting and encouraging the terrorists, as in many, many cases they are, then they are legitimate targets. That’s what Trump is trying to say.

Regarding WWII—we did too then target non-combatants, as in the bombing of Dresden and Tokyo, in order to break the will of the enemy. In the long run, the faster a conflict is brought to a close, the fewer lives will be lost in the long run. The faster resolution also does not foster the smoldering, murderous, deformation of whole societies as we are seeing in the Middle East.

Amputate and cauterize. Less suffering in the long run.

“That is different from the deliberate targeting of family members simply to intimidate terrorists, which was the point Trump made.’

I didn’t see Trump threatening any family SIMPLY as a means of intimidation. I heard Trump saying go after the bad guys AND their families. I didn’t hear, go after the families and then the bad guys will stop...no one is saying go after families only.

Your post, is, kinda nonsense. Trump didn’t say a thing about shooting anyone. Nada. And, if you are honest, you know that. Trump did say, a while back, we should hold the families, i.e. co-conspirators, accountable like the Israelis do. Bulldoze their home for example.

The Israelis hold the families accountable because of the bounty payments made by the PA. If a terrorist blows himself up and kills Israelis, they pay the family a buttload of money. The only way to eliminate that incentive is to bulldoze the home so they can't profit off it. I have zero problem with that.

But otherwise, you are re-interpreting what Trump actually said to make it more gentle than it actually was. His quote about "taking out" family members of terrorists because terrorists care about them has been posted multiple times. And the meaning of that statement is pretty clear even if you don't acknowledge it.

But in case you just think it is an anti-Trump person deliberately misconstruing what he said, maybe you should check out how some pro-Trump people have interpreted it:

Wendle, post 34:

Hey , Is it a war crime to cut off the heads of Christians on the Libyan coast and put it You Tube? How about burning them alive in cages — that ok? Let’s see them drowning in cages on tv or letting 12 year old boys blow their brains out with their hands behind their back. . Any “WAR CRIME” concern there? — I guess not. Israel attacks the homes of terrorist all the time— they bull doze them in reprisal — are you anti- Semitic? I don’t give a crap about ISIS FAMILIES!! GO TRUMP!!

dp0622 in post 58

I wish trump had just done it if he won office and not said it. I don’t care how many ISIS family members are killed if it keeps my wife, nieces and nephews safe.

KittenClaws, post 143:

I may not have said it in Trumps terms, but I can't say I disagree. Terrorists beget terrorists. It was their wives ululating as the towers burned and laughing as men burned on a bridge in Falluja... It is their male children who grow up to burn people alive or drown them in cages, who rape boys, and chop heads off of innocents....It is their female children who grow up to breed more of the vermin. All they will understand is what Trump suggests.

Mariner, post 152

Well, yes, yes he is advocating war crimes. That's why we need to legalize them...as our adversaries have.

heights, post 178

Terrorist target you and your family, its time to target their families and homes.

I am quite sure that trump supporters believe trump will defer to his military advisors. An activity that has been missing since Reagan was in office

And this is why he has to be held to account. Hopefully, after he gets blasted for saying enough stupid things, he'll start saying smarter things.

And hopefully, he'll become a candidate that more of us who are on the fence can support in the fall.

Lets follow up with my post #185:

I voted for Cruz on Super Tuesday.

I have felt this way since 911, it has nothing to do with who I support, though I agree with Trump.

I certainly would not want ground troops to go in and shoot the families (pull the trigger)because I think it is too much to ask. I'd settle for a targeted air strike on their tent.

. . .And the entire town of falluja ought to have been made into a giant piece of glass.
