Donald Trump Suits And Ties Are Made in China
CNN ^ | March 8, 2016 | Heather Long

Donald Trump Suits And Ties Are Made in China by Heather Long March 8, 2016 Donald Trump blasts companies like Ford and Apple for manufacturing products outside the United States. He even threatened to stop eating Oreo cookies after he learned some production was moving to Mexico. But Trump does the same thing.

Many of his products are made outside the United States. Most Donald J. Trump ties are made in China. Some Donald J. Trump suits are also made in China.

Donald J. Trump signature men's dress shirts are made in China, Bangladesh or "imported," meaning they were made abroad.

And it's not just Donald's products. Harvard professor and trade expert Robert Lawrence analyzed over 800 items in the Ivanka Trump fashion line. There are shoes, dresses, purses and scarves. All are "imported."

The top five countries that America imports clothing from are China (by far the leader), India, Vietnam, Pakistan and Mexico. Related: Trump tower's Chinese investors buy a path to U.S. citizenship

"In a recent debate Marco Rubio mentioned ties. But the ties made in China are just the tip of the iceberg," says Lawrence, who served on President Bill Clinton's Council of Economic Advisers.

Lawrence found that none of Ivanka Trump's clothing line appears to be made exclusively in the United States and 354 items are listed as made in China. Trump doesn't dispute this.

"I talk about my ties in speeches. I'm open. I say my ties many times are made in China," Trump told CNN's Jake Tapper in July.

"It's very hard to have apparel made in this country," Trump said.

We all know that a lot of stuff is made overseas.

Way too much.

And The Donald has screamed and shouted against it.

So why is it not relevant that The Donald himself takes advantage of cheap foreign labor.

I’m involved with a new national boys adventure group. Our uniforms are made for the organization.

While under design, a survey was sent out with design ideas. One question asked if we would be willing to pay over 50% more to have them made in USA.

There is simply no domestic clothing manufacture in our country anymore. Blame unions and artificially high wages, not Trump

I’ll only vote for him if he promises to fully “unseal” and distribute all records related to the Kennedy assassination. ..

There, I said it....

Because it just is difficult to impossible to make some things here. It is simply not economically feasible. The cost is too high to be able to sell the product.

I don't think anyone is arguing against that point. But then why is Trump threatening Ford with punishment for doing the same thing?

That is the situation he is forced into.

He wants to change it.

That is the issue.

Aunt B.

What will your nieces think? Should you really be using words like whores?

Nobody running wants our manufacturing to go overseas. Well, maybe Donald ... at least for now while he is doing it.

Ted Cruz has plans with lifting regulations on business as well as installing flat taxes that do not ruin U.S. businesses to help bring manufacturing back.

Trump has not ‘taken anything’ on. He is all talk.

Or, as we say in Texas, all hat and no cattle.

What I always try to direct you folks back to, is the list of priorities.

Where does this come down on my list of them.

This would have to be about 150th on that list.

It would be taken care of long before that based on other things that need to happen, but this is one of the biggest nothing burgers you can point to.

There is so much ahead of it. Seriously.

More than likely, there aren’t enough skilled people here to produce those products AT A REASONABLE PRICE. Much of why most products are made off shore is because of union labor prices here in the U.S.

I see it perfectly clearly.

That’s why Ted Cruz has plans to make American business competitive again.

He wants to lift crippling regulations, shut down agencies that put roadblocks in the way of business and institute fair taxes that will make American business competitive.

What does Donald Trump want to do?

Well, for now, he want to make his clothing line overseas with cheap labor.

Why, Dave, that’s just what Donald said to justify using illegals to build his stuff.

Well, I would agree with you except for one important thing.

This may be a small matter but it goes to Donald’s character and what he will really do about things.

He may decry business going overseas for cheap labor, but he uses it himself.

Donald does what benefits Donald.

All those 150 things that you put over this matter are things you apparently believe Donald will be true to, that Donald will actually do.

But look at his character. It’s revealed in this situation and in so many others..

He is not the man you want to believe he is. I truly, truly think so.

That’s the reason I post on these threads.

“I try to buy New Balance whenever I can. Still made in the USA.”

From their company website:
In 1994, New Balance manufactured 70 percent of its shoes in the United States. In 2006, New Balance stated on its customer help site that “approximately 25% of the New Balance shoes sold in North America are Made in the USA and we will continue domestic manufacturing.”

So 75% of their shoes are NOT made in the USA. Why am I not surprised!

Folks, God love ya, but this is not black and white, far from it.

Unlike in politics, in business if you go around lying your business dies.

Exactly right. An ongoing business is self-regulating after a fashion. A conman or liar may make a quick score but will not be around for long. Cheats will inevitably lose their customers; their business will deteriorate. Trump has been in business for many decades. He has been very successful. Thus he could not be a conman or a liar. It's not possible.

Guess these guys do not exist ?

20 Companies making Ties in the USA.

This is the point. Trump sells his products at a premium to maximize his profit, I bet he never even researched the issue. It didn't matter to him where his ties were made, just keep the money rolling in.

We all know that a lot of stuff is made overseas. Way too much.

True. Name one appliance that is still made in the US, for example.

And The Donald has screamed and shouted against it.

I don't remember him shouting against it, but shout FOR changing the tax structure/import-export laws to draw the manufacturing back to the US.

Anyone can gripe about the merchandise we purchase being made overseas, but the businesses in the US aren't going to buy from US manufacturers because the price is not competitive.

So why is it not relevant that The Donald himself takes advantage of cheap foreign labor.

As a businessman, what choice does he have ? Are those type of suits even made here in the US ? If so, at what price ?

Trump can't change the import-export laws, as a businessman, and most businessmen don't run businesses based on losing money. (well, except for the fake businesses approved by Obama like Solar panel manufacturers. But the loss is only on paper, they walk away with extremely high personal profit).

You might say, why doesn't Trump start up a suit mfg. business here in the US ? Well, imagine yourself setting up a suit making business. What would the cost be per suit, and what would you have to sell if for to be competitive with foreign produced suits ? How long would you be in business ?
