American officials and commentators consistently sweep under the rug: just the most obvious is that it forces the transfer of American production technology. Consider how China has manipulated General Motors, Ford, and Chrysler. They have been told that to sell in China they must manufacture there. Not only that, they must bring their best production technology, which then promptly leaks to Chinese competitors.

I have a hard time believing everyone at GM, Ford or Chrysler is getting "manipulated" in a business deal. If a foreign government could manipulate them this easily, they would have been out of business decades ago.

And what is the solution? These are cars meant for the Chinese market and not the American one. Will President Trump tell them they can't sell in China?
