There’s only one strain of Islam.
Everyone agrees that the “extreme strain of Islam must be defeated”. Some think there is no such thing as an extreme strain - that almost all, or even all, must be defeated.
No one ever says how. That’s all that really matters, isn’t it? What would a President Cruz DO?
In other words, true believers and those that take their religion and the Koran seriously.
The secular ones and backsliders are OK.

Christianity runs the gamut from the hard-core Fundamentalists and Dominionists at one end, to the Calvinists to the Arminians, and ending up with the backsliding Episcopals and UCC at the other end.
If one of them bombed an airport in the name of Christ, ALL of us would be painted with the broad brush of blame and “journalists” would insist that each denomination publicly disown that group and give up any strong believers in their midst.
Islam is Islam. There are fundies and there are backsliders.
