Tsunami Forecast - slight sea level changes

Slight sea-level changes may be observed in coastal regions, but no tsunami damage is expected.

That was kind of a hard to read map. How close was this to Tokyo? Looks like same region as yesterday’s quake, but hard to tell on the map at the website above.

According to USGS, this earthquake is 5 km east-northeast of Kumamoto at a depth of only 10 km. I’m afraid the damage to the city of Kumamoto is going to be substantial. :-( They’ll probably eventually suspend all Kyushu Shinkansen services south of Kurume.

They had a 6.4 the other day and it was part of a flurry that made them suspect a big one was coming.
I was in Hawaii two weeks ago and we had a 4.6.
I’m in CA with strange cold windy earthquake weather. This could be it, if part of us sinks into the ocean, remember I had said to by beach front property in Victorville.

An update: USGS now reports it a Magnitude 7.0 0.62 miles west of the center of the city of Kumamoto. There’s going to be a lot of damage in that city if it’s really that close to town.... :-(

I think this is referring to the same one. NHK World News only references Thursday's quake.

when so much of a city’s expansion has been built on landfill, I can’t imagine quakes being a good thing no matter how small or large.

I was actually concerned I had posted about the previous quake by mistake.
