Ok, this isn’t movies, but I got the Sci-Fi series “12 Monkeys” the other day-—like it a lot, but the formula for this stuff, whether, science fiction, crime, adventure . . . it’s all the same.
The hero is a scruffy looking guy who looks like he never shaves or takes a bath; a chick who knows her way around a Glock or a BAR; a female boss; and a black doctor/scientist/professor.
You never can have a white male boss, or a white male doctor—unless he’s the crazed villain who wants to give AIDs to the world. Every 120-pound girl is fully adept at karate and every known form of martial arts, while 240 pound men are utterly incapable of subduing her (or hitting her with a machine gun at close range).
Have I missed anything?
I’m cynical and curmudgeonly, so you need to take that into account when I express my opinions.
I kind of liked the TV series but quit watching it after a few episodes because I didn’t want to keep up with it.
The film was OK, but for me it was almost ruined by the performance of Brad Pitt. Pitt has always wanted to show that he’s not just a pretty face, but that he can actually act. He does this by overacting outrageously (I thought he was quite good in Moneyball, though).
On the other hand, I think La Jetée is great.
Terry Gilliam?.............................B^)
