Target says transgender people can use bathroom that aligns with their identity

Target Corp. made it clear that transgender people in its stores are welcome to use the bathroom that aligns with their gender identity.

The statement Tuesday by the Minneapolis-based retailer comes amid debates in many state legislatures over restricting public restroom use to the sex listed on a person’s birth certificate.

While many of those conversations have centered around restrooms in public schools and government buildings, Target appears to be one of the first big-box retailers to take a proactive stance in declaring its position on the matter when it comes to its own restrooms.

While they may not be technically public, restrooms in stores are often the most easily accessible and widely available options outside of people’s homes and workplaces.

Target’s position also extends to its fitting rooms.

“Inclusivity is a core belief at Target,” the company said in a statement on its corporate website. “It’s something we celebrate. We stand for equality and equity, and strive to make our guests and team members feel accepted, respected and welcomed in our stores and workplaces every day.”

Molly Snyder, a Target spokeswoman, said it is not a new policy, but the retailer wanted to clarify its position given the questions it has received from both customers and employees amid the national debate. Executives sent e-mail to store leaders earlier this week to convey the message.

“It’s a restatement of a policy,” she said. “It’s just us being very overt in stating it.”

Better yet, just use the women’s restroom when some femanist complains, do what th left does and call them a hater and bigot.

If as some kind of protest I decide to use the women’s bathroom (after confirming that there are no real women in there) I will take the opportunity to pee on all the seats.

When men start peeing on the seats (like they do in men’s bathrooms) women will take up arms to stop this insanity.

If a woman identifies as a man, how would she use the urinal?

As usual, Cankles leads the way:

One point people keep missing:
There’s no requirement to “wear a dress” or “dress like a woman” for a penis-endowed person to use the women’s room.
“None of your business” is all it takes for anyone of any persuasion to enter.

I’m debating the merits of just going in, using the facilities, and flatly & loudly stating Target’s policy. Maybe I’ll just print it out and stick copies, duly highlighted, under hundreds of customers’ car wipers.

I think feminism has caused this whole Transgender movement. These male Transgenders are so ashamed of being male due to feminists attacking maleness, it’s as if they can’t emotionally stand being male.

“Target Corp. made it clear that transgender people in its stores are welcome to use the bathroom that aligns with their gender identity”. Does this policy also apply to its corporate HQ?

Whats the difference between a transgender and a cross dresser?

Boy, I hope they enjoy the profits from .001 of the population suddenly all shopping at Target.

Target is walking distance for me and no longer a place I’ll shop at.

I live near a Target. I just called them and told them I won’t go there again.

I live near a Trader Joe’s too. I’d hate to have to boycott them. I shoot there a lot.

Retailers are not required to have bathrooms. They will simply close them off.

Wow - what a good idea.

I may just xerox a bunch of copies of their policy and past them on the walls of their bathroom.

Actually I may go in the men’s bathroom too. Why not?

I think it is against the law right now for someone of the wrong sex to go into a bathroom though.

Great news, the women at Target are much better looking than at other stores. Target tends to attract a much more well heeled clientele than walmart.

I hope this really works out well for Target. They are sure to attract that one tenth of one percent that are transvestites. Good marketing strategy.

Where does a company like Target find such brilliant people?

Right, I think feminism has caused the transgendered movement by shaming men into not wanting to be men anymore and now it’s come back at women or rather to their restrooms.

And the company, the leadership and the shareholders that support them will get what they have earned if there is any justice. They will be ruined.

I buy 99% of my clothes at Goodwill. I’ve also found some brand new never used items with tags still on (not all were clothing) and given them for presents. :-)

I guess I’d better be using the bathroom at home before shopping at Target...if I shopped at Target, that is.

I already can’t see how brick and mortar stores can stay in business. Why go there? Even if the price and selection were an advantage, why go to the trouble?
