Supercharged by winds of up to 70 km/h, the Fort McMurray wildfire ballooned to 85,000 hectares overnight and is now raging across a wide front south of the city.

Alberta Premier Rachel Notley and wildfire officials say the fire is expected to continue to burn out of control today as more than 100 firefighters, 10 helicopters and 16 air tankers work to protect homes and critical infrastructure.

One major task on Thursday will be to move up to 25,000 people now sheltering in oilsands work camps north of the city. The province hopes to transport many of those people, who fled Fort McMurray two days ago, by aircraft to Edmonton later today.

It just hit me why all these bad things are happening in Alberta.

From 1935-1968, Alberta's Premiers were Bible-believing, Bible-following Evangelical Pastors [William (Bible Bill) Aberhart and Ernest Manning]. In fact, Aberhart would drive from Edmonton to Calgary every Friday during legislative sessions to broadcast the 'Back to the Bible Hour' as part of the Calgary Prophetic Bible Institute service at the 2,000 seat Palace Theatre on Sunday afternoons. Alberta's future success was well set. Alberta has now turned so far from God, He has turned His face away from us, like the Hebrews of the Old Testament!

After 47 years of Progressive Conservative (and rarely 'conservative') government, they were booted out and the socialist NDP came to power with a majority one year ago today, May 5, 2015. Shortly before the election, the Conservatives (in name only) enacted legislation establishing 'gay-straight alliances' where students wanted them. (Bill 10) To add to the attempted humiliation of God's Word, in mid-January of this year, the NDippers introduced 'guidelines' on new policies required of ALL schools to allow their students to self-identify regarding their 'gender identity and gender expression'. Schools (including religious schools) were forced to have such policies in place by March 31, 2016! The policies are even more 'PC' and insulting of God's Word than anything that has come out of the White Hut. Here is a link to the story.

Notley et al, had best soon realise that God's Word cannot be mocked! Turn from God and He hides His face from you!

OMG I didn’t realize it was this huge. Has USA sent any hot shots to area? Canada helps us out all the time with fires.

As far as I know, aside from members of many AB municipal fire departments helping to knock down hotspots in the city, there are forest fire fighting teams from ON and water bombers from ON, NF and QU. More are arriving each day. The fire is now closing in on Saskatchewan, though it has been grown more slowly than anticipated.

Neither BC or MB could send any firefighters because of wildfires in BC and Manitoba. A major fire in the Fort St. John, BC area has moved into AB, but the BC firefighters are battling that one, to give the AB firefighters the chance to focus on McMurray.

With a strong el Ninõ this past winter, it has been a mild and dry winter in Western Canada. I suspect the same for the US West and mid-West, so this may be a BAD year for forest fires in the Western part of North America.

Mighty curious as to the cause of this monster.

Hmmmm...(putting tinfoil hat on), isn’t the oil field sands in close proximity?

Thank you for link. Why did he turn it down? What is the real reason? Also since when does the Palestinian Authority have any type of fire helping ability?

Why did Turd-owe turn down foreign assistance? PRIDE, likely, though the firefighters are slowly gaining control over it. If however, it gets hot and dry soon, it WILL grow, though hopefully, Fort McMurray will be safe.
