A fatal road accident claimed the life of a 60 year old woman in southern Israel Sunday night. The female driver was killed instantly when her vehicle collided with three camels.
MDA paramedics stated that they arrived on the scene to find the vehicle crushed, with the female driver pinned inside and showing no vital signs. Due to the severity of her injuries, she was declared dead at the scene.
The camels had been wandering unattended and disrupting traffic prior to the accident. Police are currently searching for the camel owners, who could potentially be found liable for the incident.
Earlier this year, the Knesset proposed legislation to avoid accidents caused by roaming camels on southern roads and highways. One suggestion was GPS for camels, whereby camels would be tracked electronically and their owners alerted if they came within a specific distance of a paved road. ...

There certainly were some bumps in the road.
Were the camels seen emerging from a tunnel near the Gaza border?
Just wondering out load....how does one miss seeing three camels in the road?
Just wondering out loud...
Probably the same way people miss seeing elk and moose in North America.
Bedouins don’t play that. Many of them are loyal Israelis whose sons serve in IDF.
True but every now and then they too threaten their own Intifada...and as you know, they are spreading all over the Negev desert...
A partial reenactment would make a great scene in an Austin Powers movie.

Don’t know about camels, but here in Maine, it’s easier to not see a moose in the road than you might think.
-— They come out just at dusk - not full daylight, not full dark.
-— Very dark fur coloring.
-— They have huge bodies on long, slender legs.
-— Headlights, particularly on short sports cars, shine low. They will illuminate the legs, but not the body.
-— Not uncommon to clip the legs and have the body (1000 + Lb) crash thru the windshield.
I was the first one on the scene of just such an accident. Little sports car about 8:30 PM. Smashed windshield, broken hand, cut face, otherwise driver OK. Moose alive, but unable to move.
Called EMS and sheriff. Called driver’s boyfriend. Sheriff shot the moose. Boyfriend asked if he could have the moose meat.
No word on her alcohol level? In open range America that is called driving too fast for conditions, careless driving, destruction of property. It is not the camel’s fault.
No camels. Just a bunch of skunks and weasels.
saw similar on I80 once bunch of cows disrupting traffic- milling around on the median- right CF when cops tried to round them up
Same way drivers don't see moose on the road in North America.
The headline had me thinking “that’s a mighty old camel” and made me wonder how long camels live.
