[Vanity] Rick Perry--A Solid VP Choice for Donald Trump
6/04/2016 | nikos1121

Rick Perry as Trump's VP makes good sense for me. Perry is a solid well vetted Patriotic American who has an excellent track record as former governor of Texas.

Here's why I think he's far and away the best pick for Trump's VP. What do the rest of you think?

Born: 4 March 1950

Birthplace: Paint Creek, Texas

Best known as: The governor of Texas, 2000-2015

Name at birth: James Richard Perry

• Graduated from Texas A&M University in 1972 with a degree in animal science.

• He was a cargo pilot in the Air Force from 1972-77, and then became a cotton farmer with his father.

• Handsome and charismatic, and a fifth-generation Texan, Rick Perry was elected to the Texas House of Representatives as a Democrat in 1984, from Texas District 64.

• In 1989 Perry switched from the Democratic Party to the Republicans, and in 1990 was elected as the state's Agriculture Commissioner, serving for two full terms.

• He ran successfully for lieutenant governor in 1998, taking office in 1999 under Governor George W. Bush.

• Perry then became governor himself on 21 December 2000, after Bush was elected President of the United States.

• Rick Perry was elected in his own right in 2002, and established himself as a favorite of the GOP's right wing.

• Rick Perry has been consistently: anti-tax, anti-big government, anti-abortion, pro-business, evangelical, tough on crime (he vetoed a ban on the executions of mentally retarded prisoners in 2002), and an outspoken doubter of global warming.

• He was reelected in 2006 and again in 2010; by the time he was succeeded by fellow Republican Greg Abbott in January of 2015, Perry had become the longest-serving governor in Texas history.

On a personal note:

• Rick Perry married the former Anita Thigpen in 1982.

• They have two children: a son, Griffin, and a daughter, Sydney.

• According to the governor’s official state biography, Perry “first met Anita Thigpen at a piano recital during their elementary school years”…

• He was an Eagle Scout and wrote the 2008 book On My Honor: Why the American Values of the Boy Scouts are Worth Fighting For…

• His hometown, Paint Creek, is a small town near Abilene in Central Texas…

• Rick Perry is the author of the 2010 book Fed Up! Our Fight to Save America from Washington.

Air Force Pilot

Deep Aggie Roots

Eagle Scout Himself

Strong Leader Who Could Step In As President If Need Be

Great Family

Trump and Perry a Perfect Match

I don’t think Trump needs anyone to win. He needs a VP to help him once he wins.

I threw this out because when I did, I thought he could be a wow VP choice that would further unite the wings of our party. Forget, throw out anything the guy has said or stands for, as he would be Trump’s guy and a loyal one.

After reading the various posts, they come down to people not liking him for stands he took or things he’s said. I like the guy as being an All American. The boy next door who has a strong work ethic, pro life...etc.

I think he would be a great choice.

But my first choice is still Newt.

I would settle for Sessions...

Duncan Hunter would be a dark horse...

But why not pick someone who can carry the weight for you? Newt certainly could in the social media... Perry certainly could when dealing with GOP elites etc.

Trump needs NO ONE, but he could use someone once he wins.

“OMG! No way!!

Are you kidding? He only got any notice at all to begin with because he succeeded “W” as governor of Texas. Besides he’s an idiot!”

Exactly my thoughts! If Liawatha were to become the VP “choice” for the RATs, she would evicerate Perry because he’s not all that bright. Newt, OTOH would tear her to shreds besides being an excellent VP.

Natural Bon is not explicitly defined in the US Constitution. Therefore your opinion has the same value as Katie Couric’s piece on gun control. SCOTUS will eventually get around to settle on the official definition.

Quite an increase in quality from La Raza Rick to Greg Abbott. Abbott and the late Bill Clements are the only two excellent TX Governors in the past 50 years.

I have read 150 responses and think my first thought of YES is like my first impressions of Cruz. It became a resounding NO to him too.

I don’t think he can get past the first debate, last cycle, that he did so poorly, or the recent comments against Trump.

The glasses might make a good trademark though! LOL

“Why would you say that?”

Because I’m heartless. Rick Perry said so.

Not a bad possibility, a great congressman who has been extremely responsive in helping me when I lived in his district...

“Time to take a look at Duncun D Hunter....California.”

Maybe. What constituency does Hunter bring to the table that Trump doesn’t already have?
