“Pennies are not Legal Tender.”
The hell you say. Maybe you forgot your sarc tag (?)
Yep. My pleasure!
Subsequently, I found a brief annotation on what constitutes legal tender at 31 ALR 246 [which I reprieved from West law and is supposedly current as of June, 2004] on what constitutes "legal tender." It points out that with respect to coins as legal tender, "The minor coins of the United States are legal tender for any amount not exceeding 25 cents in any one payment. Act Feb. 12, 1873, Rev. Stat. ' 387, Comp. Stat. ' 6574, 6 Fed.Stat. Anno. 2d. ed. p. 298."It appears from a search I did after being challenged here that the Congress effectively eliminated the distinction between minor coinage and other US Currency in 1982. This distinction used to be valid until 1964 when all coins above a nickel were made of silver. (Now, of course, all coins are made from scrap metals.) The legal definition of a dollar was then and still is that it is 371.25 grains of silver. Dimes (dismes) used to contain a tenth of this amount; quarters one fourth, and so on. Now since there is no legal money anymore, I guess it hardly makes a difference.

Dear SoFloFreeper:
Thank you for that delightful post! Had you not posted it, I doubt I would have had the pleasure.
Also, please ignore Humblegunner. I have been an official Freeper since 2002. A lurker for several years before that. I post very rarely. That said, the not-so-humble gunner is unique among all the Freepers I have observed over the decades. Irascible, irritating, ill-mannered to an exceptional degree. (And we have had some hum-dingers!)
Anyway, God Bless JimRob and blessings as well on you and your house - thank you again for the post.
Shalom
“So thank you SoFloFreeper for posting.”
Ditto for me! HG is being petty!
One of the nicest replies I have ever had! Blessings to you, too!

I loved it. Larry & Amanda Anderson did a wonderful job.
Fun post!
Just ignore humblegunner. Most of us do.
