Five years at State, or the Agency, and at age 55 you qualify for that minimun retirement; no other federal agencies offer this perk. Part of diplomacy - been there, done that.

That is a good question.
Here is a related thread that I posted that did not get much attention but I think is very revealing:

Pick a fight with Putin. Obama on one side Putin on the other... unfathomable.

Why is it any business of the United States to overthrow Assad? When you look at the millions of displaced refugees and the thousands upon thousands of dead, how can you call it anything but a war crime? Obama, Hillary, and Kerry should all be on trial at The Hague.

Good article. We’ve often said here that under Obama the US had switched sides in the “war on terror”.

This article makes it ever so clear that we have. Our policy is still pretty incoherent in its details, but in its broad strokes it is clear that the US has switched sides. Allies are now adversaries; adversaries are now allies at least under the table.

Thanks for the link.

Obama wants to get rid of Assad, because he allowed Christians to live in peace in Syria. Can’t have that!

Isn’t Assad against Isis/Isil? Don’t the non-muslims in the area prefer Assad over Isis/Isil? Do the Iranians want Assad gone? Do U.S. citizens of Iranian descent want Assad gone?

Without Assad or some other strongman in power, Syria becomes another failed state like Libya, Iraq, and Egypt after Mubarak until the military intervened.

What’s the REAL reason the establishment elitists so want rid of him so bad?

They want the Muslim Brotherhood to head up the new Caliphate.

Obama tried to get it going in Egypt... that flopped. They tried Libya... fail. Syria is their last hope before the clock runs out.

“So, with that in mind, what on earth would be the reason to take down Assad if you are in bed with his patron?”

Israel.

100% correct, and in a stunning coincidence, is the focus of CIA Operation Arab Spring, still in progress.
