The article brings up a good point.

Actually, I’ve been more expecting France to leave than Britain. After all, they were the ones to vote against the EU Constitution. Not Britain.

Now that the EUnionist have brazenly rolled out the next step in their master plan I wouldn’t be surprised if Frexit gains steam even while the “Europeans” in Britain double down on stupid to stay.

Either that or the EU basically falls apart (too bad, so sad) and something new quickly arises in its place on the back of the Euro.

Seems to me that there were heads on pikes around London after that one failed.

They only have to blackmail enough to get a majority.

The Conservative party will shortly announce a leadership contest.

This will most likely end in a matchup between Boris Johnson and Theresa May. This contest will be resolved in early September. The result will be decided by Conservative party voters.

If/when Boris wins then he will initiate some action (possibly article 50) to leave the EU. There are other possibilities, including negotiating an amendment to the Lisbon treaty.

If May wins then it’s all much more murky. She voted Remain, so who knows if she would carry through the will of the people.

Anyway: that leadership contest is the next vote on BREXIT. If Boris wins, he can just sign article 50 if he wants. He’ll be acting with a clear mandate and having just been elected as party leader on a BREXIT ticket.

Remember: Gordon Brown (aka “Gordon the Leper”) signed us into the Lisbon Treaty by stealth, and there was no referendum or parliamentary vote. This time there HAS been a referendum and Boris will be acting on a clear mandate.

I believe the Queen favored BREXIT, so if Parliament refuses to act in accord with the referendum, she could technically dissolve Parliament.

technically, he is correct -- there is no law saying that the referendum should become law. Also, the referendum was not stated that it would do anything but state what the opinion was.

That being said, it would be extremely slimy to NOT go ahead with Brexit (and I think Brexit is wrong) -- the majority voted to leave and that's what should happen, even if they have buyer's regret)

The mantra used to be "overturning the will of the People" and "every vote must count.

Now it's "vote your conscience."

It's always "heads I win, tails you lose" with these people.

I knew it, they will ignore the vote.

I predicted as much more than a month ago, unless people take to the streets they will ignore it.

They seem to have the kind of constitution that our liberals want, one that is ever changing and subject to current whims which are discovered by the learned judiciary.

In truth, I have a sentimental connection to the region where my name (ancestors) came from. It’s one reason why I support Britain and Ireland when I can. I have an affinity for Scotland as well.
