“Somehow, no matter the state, the bar is dominated by raging Marxists...never figured it out.”

I’m also an attorney, and I concur that most state bars are about as red as can be. For years, I didn’t understand why lawyers in general were so Leftist (and especially trial lawyers). However, I believe that I’ve figured it out: most of the profession exists to take money from others. Oh, you do have defense lawyers, of course - and they fight the takers. However, notice that they get paid...i.e. they benefit from the conflict, so that they aren’t completely disinterested. The defense attorney is no less a taker than the odious and obnoxious SOB who sues you, lies about you, and extorts lots of money from you to make the problem go away - he’s just less up front about it.

Of course, this is in contrast to the Estate Planning lawyers like me, who simply try to help people save tax dollars and save their families the trouble of an unsettled estate when they die. This is one of the only fields in the law that I feel comfortable being in - otherwise, the old joke of “What do you call 10,000 lawyers at the bottom of the ocean? A good start.” is largely true. Having attended law school, and having worked with a fair number of lawyers both in and out of my firms over the years, I can tell you that the only difference between your run-of-the-mill asshole and most attorneys is that the attorneys in question have the proper sheepskin on the wall.

To directly answer your question of why the Bar is so Leftist, I truly believe that it is part of the master plan that Stalin and the NKVD initiated in this country (and elsewhere) 85-90 years ago: take over a nation from within. Control its education, its media and its laws, and you have won and the only question is how long it will take for that to be a fait accompli. THAT is what has happened to our nation and our profession.

The only difference between most lawyers and a horse’s ass is the horse.

Hell, I was one of the attorneys purged in NM. We are required to state party preference in our Bar renewal forms every year and it’s an open secret that Republicans get extra special treatment. In my case, a client disappeared leaving no forwarding address or phone number. Her case got closed because you can’t proceed without a client. She reappeared 2 years later and I tried to reopen her case but the facts had changed. She complained to the Bar and said she had never disappeared. I provided proof she did. They set me for trial. At my trial with the Bar I asked where the client was. They said they hope I knew. She had disappeared again. I still got disbarred.
