Sen. Ted Cruz accepted an invitation from President Barack Obama to travel aboard Air Force One on Tuesday to Dallas for an interfaith memorial honoring the victims of last week’s attack.

The news was reported by multiple reporters who spotted Cruz at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland where the president’s plane departs from.

You cannot compare the two events. One is a tradition involving a transfer of power, the other is pandering, and who knows what else

Better described, one might say that the two events have much in common, the inauguration ride is a tradition which symbolizes national unity at a time of the transfer of power. It is significant that power is surrendered, often to a different political party, without violence and the ride down Pennsylvania Avenue symbolizes that tradition.

The ride down to Texas in the People's airplane symbolizes national unity in the face of the searing issue of race and mass murder, a time of national grief and a time of potential national peril which, not incidentally, comes just before an election.

Fantasy writer has suggested that I am unaware of the role Barack Obama has played in exploiting race in the tragic murders in Dallas. Perhaps she has forgotten who it is who formulated Nathan Bedford's first maxim of American politics:

All politics in America is not local but ultimately racial

and who has repeated this maxim to the point of tediousness and tried to apply it to the events of the day.

Yes I think Obama is guilty as hell and I also think Ted Cruz would have been very foolish to publicly decline to ride in Air Force One to attend the memorial service for his own constituents murdered in the line of duty. Consider the context, Barack Obama is the first black president of the United States, the murders were done out of race hatred, the president was about to make a national speech calling for national unity. Obama wants to appear as did Abraham Lincoln and the second inaugural address. But you want Ted Cruz to look petulant.

There are many FReepers during the campaign who disparaged Ted Cruz' heroic attempts to fight against the policies of Barack Obama, a fight often conducted virtually alone. When it came time to belittle Ted Cruz to gain primary victories, his real efforts in a real fight were discouraged. Now Ted Cruz is disparaged because he declines to play the petulant and appear to be childish or rude.

If you want Donald Trump to win this election, the last thing you want is for a leading Republican candidate to betray a pettiness of character in contrast to Obama's well-crafted posture of Lincolnesque nobility.

Besides, we might just consider that we are on the cusp of race riots in this country in which many innocent people will die and the role of leaders of this country is not the fan the flames of racial hatred. It is not to feed the resentments of Black Lives Matter by disrespecting the first black president of the United States. It is to honor fallen heroes and not besmirch the ceremony of their passing with cheap political tricks.

When the time came to resist Obama, Cruz was there but he was left alone at the time and he has been abandoned since. Now you want him to play the petulant.

I didn't intend to infer that I obey lawless laws nor vote for people that stand for abortion, homosexual acts, or any other immoral and illegal "laws" or unconstitutional acts!

I totally agree with Anne Graham Lotz, who stated "God would need to apologize to Sodom and Gommorah if He doesn't punish America!"

What I do know that God allows or gives us the leaders (just as He did to Germany) we deserve, especially after the blood of more than 50 million babies on our mutual hands, so I don't understand your confusion merely because I acknowledge God's hands in picking or allowing kings or rulers.

If you loved your country more than you do Cruz, you would not even suggest letting Hillary win because your pride is hurt. What a great world you would be making for Drew who I assume is your son. I would crawl down a football field of razor blades to keep that woman out of power! Shame on you!

Nobody is calling the rest of the TX delegation petulant. Cruz is the only one sufficiently callous to Obama’s role in the officers’ death to lend the Accomplice to Murder in Chief a veneer of respectability.

Keep it up and the Cruz fans here at FR will start to have second thoughts about Trump. You are gaining nothing by this Cruz-hating campaign. Except perhaps driving people away from FR.

Plus it makes all of you look the fool, sad to say. I really wish Jim Robinson would speak up on this issue.

It was you that wrote this:

I choose to follow scripture that instructs me to accept and obey my leaders as they are in the place of power by the the "will of God" and to refuse that instruction is to dishonor God, not man.

You are the one that makes it sound like you would follow our leaders, whether they were good or evil. I for one, refuse to follow evil leaders. The wisdom in Christianity is to know the difference.

It's your lucky day Sparky, he already did:

It’s capitalist Trump vs communist Hillary.

That should be a no-brainer for all patriotic God-fearing Americans.

Her judicial and other high level appointments will destroy America and that is a certainty.

NeverTrumpers/anti-Trumpers, etc., are unwelcome here. Membership longevity doesn’t matter to me when the survival of our nation is at risk. Period.

All they have to do is commit to joining us in our battle for Trump and against the communist dhimmiecrats and quit trashing him and his supporters. If they’re not interested in doing that, then I’m not interested in anything they might post and they can continue sitting it out for the duration.

And I’m also not interested in rehashing the past flamewars. Shoulda coulda woulda will not win this election. They can place the entire blame for Cruz’ downfall on me if they want. I don’t care. Don’t care who’s at fault or who thinks I’m a shithead. Not interested.

Not interested in looking back, only in looking forward and concentrating on winning the presidency and holding on to our congressional and senate majorities.

If they can’t do that, then they should move on.

FR will not be used to attack our nominee or his supporters. Period. Get it out of your systems.

Also not worried about the future of FR. It will be fine.

Hand-wringing navel-gazers yearning for the perfect conservative can KMA.

This is a rebellion against the uni-party!

As they said during the Revolution: Join or die!

It is Cruz hatred to point out that Obama spat on the memory and sacrifice of murdered police officers???

Really?

We all knew Obama would do this. It’s his MO. Cruz had to know it too. Still he alone of the TX delegation lent Obama the imprimatur of his presence. Stating that fact is NOT hatred.

Cruz’ attendance at the memorials, as a member of the Texas delegation - none of whom, to the best of my knowledge, were either offered or accepted an AF1 ride - is sufficient.\

Obsequiously grasping at this crumb from the Instigator in Chief is, quite frankly, obscene.

Hence, I respectfully disagree, and refer you once again to post #97.

Dude, he put it out there, trying to goad me into releasing my name.

For the record, "Night Hides Not" is the motto of the battalion I served in during my tour in Germany. It was a Chaparral/Vulcan (towed) battalion, with the responsibility for air base defense of three air bases: Hahn, Spangdahlem, and Bitburg.

I commanded both Chaparral platoons in my battery, as well as one of the Vulcan platoons. My last job was as Battalion S-4 (Supply Officer). I was given near-absolute independence as the S-4, as I had the trust of my Battalion Commander, and I was well equipped to run the shop: I had been with the battalion three years already, and my public accounting degree gave me a depth of understanding of accountability and budgeting not often seen at that level. I also did six months as the Property Book Officer, as the new warrant's arrival was delayed. Again, my accounting background enabled me to pick up the slack without missing a beat.

It was a unique assignment due to the distance between units. For example, C Battery at Hahn was 45 miles from battalion hq.

I was afforded the opportunity to live in a town on the Mosel for 4 years (Traben-Trarbach). It was one of the greatest experiences of my life. I was part of a team that molded our battalion into C-1 status after our last tactical evaluation.

I once had quite a bit of info on my home page, but I pulled it several months ago. In this environment, I deemed it prudent, given the breakdown in discourse on this site.
