Online shopping has created a whole new breed of addicts

Melissa will do anything to feed her online-shopping addiction — even if that means subsisting off a diet of microwaveable soup.

“I’ll eat only ramen in order to shop,” she says.

The 34-year-old — who works in sales at Red Wing Heritage, a leather goods brand, and asked that her last name not be used for professional reasons — receives two to three packages a week at her East Village apartment thanks to her daily binges.

“I love coming home and there’s a package,” she says. “It’s like there’s a prize at my door.”

Americans spent a record $341.7 billion on online purchases in 2015 — more than double what they shelled out in 2010 — according to the US Department of Commerce. And while shopaholics aren’t a new phenomenon, the ease with which one can buy online with same-day delivery sites such as Amazon Prime — not to mention daily flash-sale e-mails and targeted advertisements — has unleashed a whole new breed of addicts.

In a recent story, Doc Brown went back to 1938 and bought a copy of Action 1 to fund his experiments. I’d think in real life you’d need to buy it and store it someplace safe and dry. If you returned to the future and tried to sell a copy that was printed a week ago, it’d be dismissed as a fraud.

Exactly. IMO Sears needs to join the 21st Century and ship from a centralized location. A brick and mortar sales business is tantamount to a burial plot, a casket, and six feet of dirt these days.

I receive between 2 an 4 Amazon shipments a week.
It actually saves me a bundle of money.
I can’t purchase cat food locally for the price Amazon will give me. It’s just cheaper and I don’t have to drive around to buy it.
So, yes, I buy online. (cat food, shoes, fishing tackle, toys for the grand kids, etc.)

I’ve watched a channel with jewelry and gemstones and they talk about people by name, you know that strokes their egos.

*** “Yet another addiction for the books. What ever happened to the good old days when, if you were having trouble dealing with your problems, you just got drunk?” ***

As a young Sailor we had a saying about Drinking Problems

“Get Drunk, Fall Down, Get Up... No Problem”

I love my Amazon ... my Finke Cigar Company and my JC Whitney (well actually I think my Jeep loves JC Whitney)
