Mr. Obama will leave the White House as one of the most prolific authors of major regulations in presidential history.
In nearly eight years in office, President Obama has sought to reshape the nation with a sweeping assertion of executive authority and a canon of regulations that have inserted the United States government more deeply into American life.
Once a presidential candidate with deep misgivings about executive power, Mr. Obama will leave the White House as one of the most prolific authors of major regulations in presidential history.
Blocked for most of his presidency by Congress, Mr. Obama has sought to act however he could. In the process he created the kind of government neither he nor the Republicans wanted one that depended on bureaucratic bulldozing rather than legislative transparency. But once Mr. Obama got the taste for it, he pursued his executive power without apology, and in ways that will shape the presidency for decades to come.
The Obama administration in its first seven years finalized 560 major regulations those classified by the Congressional Budget Office as having particularly significant economic or social impacts. That was nearly 50 percent more than the George W. Bush administration during the comparable period, according to data kept by the regulatory studies center at George Washington University.
An army of lawyers working under Mr. Obamas authority has sought to restructure the nations health care and financial industries, limit pollution, bolster workplace protections and extend equal rights to minorities. Under Mr. Obama, the government has literally placed a higher value on human life.
And it has imposed billions of dollars in new costs on businesses and consumers.

Now that he’s in power of course.
His version of “executive power” is a dictatorship. It’s good to be the king.
“Under Mr. Obama, the government has literally placed a higher value on human life.”
No, NYT, it was his cronies in Planned Parenthood who were putting price tags on human life...
It’s good to be king.
Oh, really????
And Trump is the fascist? Don’t these people ever listen to themselves?
That’s because this ‘executive power’ manifested through Executive Orders, Memoranda and Directives offer him the tease and tinge of tyranny. That one-quick-fix of power that is instantly gratifying.
However, EVERYTHING (at least the mechanisms of implementation) he’s done through these means can be erased with the stroke of another President’s pen.
Do the authors of this screed really believe this? The only reason socialists run for office is to increase the power and scope of government (with themselves as the top dogs, of course).
Under Mr. Obama, the government has literally placed a higher value on human life.
Obviously, they are not talking about moral value, but financial value. Between Obamacare death panels, abortuaries, and sales of infant body parts, Obama has made clear that he sees human beings as commodities for powerful socialists to use for financial gains.
Enemy Dictator who answers only to Soros and Satan and Saudi.
Just getting the US ready for Hillary’s dictatorship. We ain’t seen nothing yet. She knows she will be dealing with the empty suits in the GOP who are scared of her, so she will be free to succeed where Eve Peron failed.
With bend over pubs to help! Never voting R again...what difference does it make ,we ARE already living in a communist land..rats are in control even when not in power!! The biggest evil factor is the mediawhores who CONTROL our LIVES!! I HATE THEM AND WISH THEM HELL!! Sooner rather than later!
Insanity by any other name is New York Times.
he’s ruled by it... the dictator he is... and the damned republicans have embraced him and his lawless power grab.
Who in their right minds would vote for hillary and give her the reins to continue with this and she and bill would believe they had been given the right to do whatever they pleased... and they’d sell what is left of this country to line their pockets... and we’d never survive the willful surrender to such evil, ....without firing a shot or a rising up of the people in this country..
I knew a man who, on the surface, was the very model of a benevolent, powerful person. But I knew people who worked with him on his way up and he must have been an absolute b*stard to work for. One day, he said, “I wish I was a benevolent dictator. The world would be a much better place.” I suddenly realized that wasn’t true. He seemed benevolent now because, although he had money and contacts, he no longer had the power of his former position. So, he had to negotiate for things rather than dictate. I realized if he was a dictator he would be as far from benevolent as we are from Pluto.
Power belonging to somebody else is always bad. Only power belonging to the (critical person, in this case, Obama) is good.
I was talking to someone yesterday about Trump's statement that Obama was the founder of ISIS. This person was unhappy that Trump later said he was using "sarcasm". Now the media is full of reports that "you just can't believe anything Trump says!"
The Dems have Hillary:
Email
Benghazi
Donations
Monica
lies
lies
lies
But, you know, TRUMP is the one we cannot trust because he used -- GASP! -- sarcasm.
Usurpers have no checks on their power because they are not accountable to anyone.
Both parties knew he was not a natural born citizen.
The GOP wanted to run ineligible candidates, too.
Haley, Jindal, Rubio and Cruz are all ineligible.
Post of the day!
“one of the most prolific authors of major regulations in presidential history”
Note “author of regulations”, not “signer of bills into law”. That’s a big difference that they are careful not to highlight — it’s imperialism and dictatorial inclinations, not the intended operation of our government, as other posts have noted.
