The subscription cancellations were coming every 10 minutes. Angry readers have been calling in droves. One caller issued a death threat.
Were feeling the weight of our history, Phil Boas, the editorial page editor of The Arizona Republic, said in a telephone interview on Wednesday. Until it endorsed Hillary Clinton on Tuesday, the newspaper, founded in 1890, had never endorsed a Democrat over a Republican for president.
The Cincinnati Enquirer, which endorsed Mrs. Clinton last week, put it particularly bluntly: Trump is a clear and present danger to our country.
For some readers, however, the endorsements proved a step too far. Certainly, weve paid a price for our presidential recommendation, Mike Wilson, the editor of The Dallas Morning News, told Poynter this month.
Mr. Boas of The Arizona Republic said he expected a lot of cancellations, pointing to cancellations at The Cincinnati Enquirer, which like The Republic, is owned by Gannett.

Cancel subscriptions. Whoever doesn’t do so is complicit with the enemy.
Msm is reporting “another major newspaper” is urging it’s readers to be sure to vote just not for Trump. Listen long and you hear it’s usa today that nobody reads. Chuck retard airhead concentrating on the first time aspect. Oh how they hate and postulate.
Which was the newspaper that put itself up for sale and ended up getting sold for $1? That says it all right there.
USA Today, owned by Gannett.
Arizona Republic, owned by Gannett.
The Cincinnati Enquirer, owned by Gannett.
I'm noticing a pattern here.
Here’s a radical idea.
Newspapers should report the news ...and stop editorializing. If I want to read an opinion piece I can go online. Some of the comments here on FR for example are far more insightful and thought provoking than I’ve ever read in an old fashioned newspaper.
Why should I pay good money to a newspaper that endorses a lying criminal?
Wonder if they all will be endorsing the Hildabeast...
Gannett pays Clinton Foundation, Government pays Gannett.
Taxpayers all loose.
But EVERYONE loves Hillary and is voting for her historic election... Right??
Talk about mixed messages! The enemedia needs to coordinate their propaganda better.
It appears that the pressure to endorse the Hildabeast is top down from Gannett headquarters in Washington DC.
Gannett is also currently in a hostile takeover bid for the Chicago Tribune and the Los Angeles Times.
I fully expect a rash of hit news stories against Trump to originate from Gannet’s newspapers (including USA Today) between now and the election.
“Let’s look at these “surprise” Clinton newspaper endorsements:
USA Today, owned by Gannett.
Arizona Republic, owned by Gannett.
The Cincinnati Enquirer, owned by Gannett.
I’m noticing a pattern here.”
Bingo... You got it.
What really bothers me is that Gannett, headquartered in McClean VA, is tied to the CIA. Propaganda arm of ......
Why would the CIA support Hillary?
Bush Sr. former head of CIA as well!!!!
They will be considerations once the next round of layoffs hit.
Vote with your feet. I wonder what Michael Medved's latest ratings book will look like...
See anything?
I notice that if an area of the country is either deep blue or red - Gannett isn't there...except for VT.
All Gannett Papers are local versions of USA today - the same national news with a small % of local news. All of them are fish wrap. They are to the Left of Pravda. My part in the protest is refuse to pick up a USA today when it is free at the hotels I stay at.
All Gannett owned papers.
Follow the money to the Clinton campaign.
When I was a kid, our newspaper was about 2’ wide, 3’ tall and often a 1/4 inch thick with Sunday’s much larger.
Today it’s about 18” wide and 2’ tall with about 10 - 20 pages. It’s pathetic.
Print news is on it’s way out. Only thing they are good for are cartoons, legals, obits and classifieds.
I think I read somewhere that former xlintonista sec if DHHS, donna shalala is now president of the crime family’s foundation.
Shalala was also on Gannett publishing board of directors.
cincinnati enquirer, arizona republic, and USA today are all gannettt papers.
how’s that for dots?
That might have been Newsweek. If you have a billion dollars in assets and have pension commitments or other debts of one dollar less than a billion dollars, then your net worth is one dollar. Anyone who buys your operation buys your debt, too.
It's corruption but invisible to those in the MSM who deal with it every day.
I can’t believe anybody actually still subscribes to that crap.
