I have to agree with him on this. Just have a look at the portions served in restaurants. Bigger is better I guess. And at buffets...most slobs don't even finish what they take. There is an obesity problem in this country. Portion size control is the first thing that needs to happen to reverse the trend. Go to Golden Corral and just watch with a critical eye.

A serving of protein (meat) is the size of a deck of cards. A serving of baked potato isn't supposed to be 8 inches long and smothered in butter and sour cream. Try a red Bliss potato with margarine and plain yogurt.
Dessert? What's that?

I recommend contraceptives in all food aid shipped world wide, as well as for people on food stamps. It’s not that there isn’t enough food, it’s that there are too many useless eaters.

Lawyers and the government are the biggest reason so much food is wasted.

Sounds similar to the line the nuns used on us back in the 1960s - There are Chinese children starving so you’d better clean your plates!

Of course, sometimes we had no idea what were eating, esp the weekly mystery meat! We would have been happy to send that to those poor kids.

Clean you plate. Don’t you know there’s poor children in China starving?

It’s not about portion size it’s about cleaning your plate and not wasting food. I agree there’s too much waste. I posted just a couple days ago on that particular soap box. American might as well throw money out the window as it’s the same as throwing food in the garbage. If you can’t eat it all, eat it later, give it to the dog or freeze it. But don’t leave it to be trashed.

There’s also no reason to let food rot in the fridge. You worked to earn the money for it and you drove to the grocery store and spent time there for what? To throw it in the garbage? That’s ridiculous.

That’s why we have doggy bags. You don’t do leftovers but expect others to go without them? And since when is a baked potato meant to be a certain length?!

Propose desalination plants across Africa coast. You can then plant everything you want, he rid of all the carbon and prevent Africa from sinking.

I wonder how much food from a typical White House, State Department or embassy dinner or party goes into the trash can. All the federal government departments which entertain can cut back on their food portions and waste first before lecturing the rest of us.

What percentage of the taxpayer-funded hot breakfast and hot lunch programs in the public schools are thrown away? Let’s start there. Then cut back all the EBT funds by 30%, since there is obviously so much food waste occurring.

Portion size control is the first thing that needs to happen to reverse the trend.

And WHO defines: portion?

Bloomberg tried it in NYC with the size of soda that could be sold. Went over like a fart in church.

No thanks I KNOW whats best for me...PERIOD.

Are you suggesting that there should be government regulations/mandates as to portion sizes that can be sold in a free market as for restaurants and grocery stores?

What is the correct amount of food we should each be allowed?
