A Historic First: Trump Wins Maine CD 2
Townhall ^ | Nov 09, 2016 2:10 AM | Christine Rousselle

Posted on 11/09/2016 11:22:52 AM PST by Red Steel

Since 1972, Maine has had the option to divide its Electoral College votes by congressional district. The outright winner of the state gets two electoral vote, and the winner of each congressional district gets one. Despite this, Maine has never actually had to divide its electoral votes and the same candidate has always won both districts--until now.

Although Hillary Clinton won Maine outright and won the 1st congressional district, Donald Trump won the more rural 2nd district--and its electoral vote. Trump's win in CD2 is a direct result of the campaign's extensive campaigning over the past two weeks in the district.

Maine CD2's congressman, Rep. Bruce Poliquin (R-ME), was considered to be one of the more vulnerable members of Congress. Poliquin was reelected with 55 percent of the vote.

307 to 231. Is that considered a landslide?

The difference in enthusiasm could not be more stark. Hillary Clinton has resorted to hosting events highlighting super stars in order to draw more than a handful of supporters. Donald Trump is a super star, drawing 10,000+ supporters multiple times a day. That is the kind of enthusiasm that brings voters to the polls.

The Headline of the Day predicts on November 8, 2016 Donald J Trump will win in a landslide.

There was a time (Last Night) when that one electoral vote would’ve been cherished, so even now it is not discounted. Imagine if it had gotten to 269 like the “Toe Sucker” predicted, and then you got that one electoral vote.

Wasn’t Obama the first to win Nebraska 1st District back in 2008?

Evidently Nostradamus predicted that the blond will defeat the forked one. The commentators on that show said that “the blond” was Hillary. LOL Obviously “the forked one” was crooked Hillary.

Two of my Mainer grandkids were thrilled to get to meet President Trump when he visited their school. All 3 of our kids and their spouses are on the Trump Train.

Maine’s a beautiful state - I absolutely adore it - particularly once you get above the Bath bridge.

I'd like to see more states join Maine and Nebraska. It would give a louder voice to people in deep blue and deep red states that buck the trend.

But, it would require a Constitutional amendment for uniform application. CA and NY (or TX) would never do it voluntarily.
