Funny, I used to work in Humboldt Park in Chicago in the 80s. The boathouse was part of the lagoon just across from the swimming lake where I was a lifeguard. By that time, the neighborhood was mostly Puerto Rican and pretty dicey. Personally saw a couple of people shot there - gang stuff and robberies. As a white guy walking around I was pretty fair game. Other than that it was a pretty fun gig.
