General Motors has no plans to change where it produces small cars because of criticism from President-elect Donald Trump, the company’s top executive said Sunday night.

CEO Mary Barra said the auto business has long lead times for where it produces vehicles, with decisions are made two to four years ahead.

Last week Trump threatened on Twitter to slap a border tax on GM for importing the compact Chevrolet Cruze to the U.S. from Mexico. …

My son had two Chevy pick ups he used in heavy duty work. Both had over 350,000 when he sold them.

GM vs. Trump. Hardly a fair fight.

Agree with everything you said there. The people running our major companies come from the leftist indoctrination centers known as our colleges and universities.

It’s probably why the GM CEO is still living in that bubble which will end up being counterproductive to Trump’s MAGA and reality. I imagine we’ll see this quite a bit from some of these major companies as we move away from the failed crony capitalism.

It’s like any of today’s leftists that have failed to see their ways have failed America as the rest of us move away from their failures.

Instead of a tariff let’s require GM to completely disassemble each vehicle at the border so they can be inspected for contraband.

You can still get many of these engines thru GM’s Performance Catalog.

You can also get any level of performance "crate" engine from Summit, Jegs, Mr Gasket etc.

Trump won’t be owning GM on Jan 21?

Nope. The US government sold it's last interest in GM three years ago.

My 79 blazer has over 250K and runs OK when it runs. It was a barn find.

I’d like to put a chevy or ford engine in my CJ7 since it needs a new powerplant. Generic motors and ford parts are a lot easier to get than some AMC.

If/when that Willys engine goes, I’d love to have a V6 like some Willys CJs had.

My son's 75 454 Vette has a crate engine in it.

My son was in Nuclear Power School when the orig engine threw its timing chain.

He decided to put a crate engine in it and had a shop do the work that everyone said did good work.

Shortly afterward he noticed a vibration he hadn't felt before. He graduated and got assigned to a sub in Guam.

We hauled the car to my home and I took a look at it. The 454 is either internally or externally balanced.

Turns out the orig engine was internally balanced. The shop replaced it with an externally balanced crate engine, BUT reused the original harmonic balancer and flex plate.

I replaced those for the proper ones and life was good.

“Somebody needs to be made an example of. Might as well be Government Motors.”

Exactly. And all President Trump has to do is periodically talk about how great Fords are. Doesn’t even need to say anything negative about GM, either.

When I picked up my 53Willys CJ3B it already had a Chevy 283 in it. But it had sat outside for over 10 years and its hood scoop allowed water to find its way into the engine. Rusted up solid. The guy I bought it from was an old school mudder. He ran duallys on all 4 corners with dually chains all the way around.

I replaced it with a 350. It took me about 2 years off and on to go thru everything and make it driveable.

I started out with a Carter 500cfm 2bbl carb, but I couldn't take off on wet streets without breaking the tires loose.

Once I replaced that carb with a 390cfm Holley 4bbl( with tiny primaries) it was much more easy to drive.

I have also since converted it to dual fuel, using forklift propane tanks.

This article shows proof that GM lied, and lots of Cruze sedans from Mexico are being sold in the USA.

Yes and no.

GM has now clarified that that it imported the Cruze sedan for around three months in 2016, which was around the time of the new model’s launch. None of these foreign-made examples have arrived in the U.S since the fall

I’m not a big Vette fan, but I’d like to get one of those gutless wonders that they made for a while (1980) and put a HO small block, like a 383, with a 5 speed, add rack and pinion, real dual exhaust. Maybe a body kit.

Could be a pretty good retro, a fun sports car.

(it’s probably been done a thousand times)
